My DS has ARMY ROTC, NAVY ROTC, and SA options. He received his medical waivers for SA and NAVY ROTC last month.
Of course he wants ARMY ROTC and that is the waiver we are waiting on. If he was awarded from the 3rd AROTC Board, do we assume we won't be hearing about this waiver for a while? Has anyone from the 3rd Board gotten a waiver yet. Thank you!

I would suggest he contacts his AROTC Battalion and see if they can look in to it for him! It might need a little nudge from them, especially if they are hoping he chooses their school.

Ok - a lot of moving parts here. Has he received a waiver from NROTC and SAs? If so he should be fine on his AROTC waiver. If I read your question correctly, he was awarded a 4-YR NROTC Scholarship and received a medical waiver, but wants to accept his 3YR AROTC option? Is that correct.

All correct except he received a 4 YR AROTC scholarship and wants to accept. Waivers were for USMMA and NROTC.

I agree it seems likely he will get the AROTC waiver, but I understand the deadline is approaching for deciding, and he would like to know he has the waiver before he makes his final decision which is why it seems reasonable for him to contact his AROTC school. They should be able to see what’s happening with it on their end to a certain extent. Congratulations to your son, he has some great options!

Contacted the ROTC program today and they said it’s a waiting situation and they would let him know if they hear anything. I know most are in the opposite situation where they are waiting for SA.. If we don’t hear about the waiver before May 1, I literally don’t know what he will do. Do we put money down on the University and hope for the best? The stress is quickly building.

That is what we did. She committed to her 1st choice school and we will cross our fingers that the waiver comes through. We did speak to a cadet while there that mentioned that she did not received her waiver until halfway through the first semester so she couldn't contract before then and had to pay for the first semester (was told you get reimbursed for this but not the missed stipends).

It’s taking such a chance. He will be giving up a SA (he prefers college experience with ROTC life ) and NROTC scholarship. It’s really hard to celebrate these accomplishments. Do you intend on going through the school awards ceremony? My son definitely won’t want to if he doesn’t have the waiver.

It is- not sure about the awards ceremony. We haven't thought about that yet. Hoping it comes through prior to the end of the school year and it's a positive result. Best of luck to your son! Hoping they both get good news!

Can he contact the SA and explain the situation? Is the NROTC for the same school as the AROTC?

I really feel for you and your son. He’s got some tough decisions to make. Reality may be if he’s not 100% committed to a SA experience than he may not be setting himself up for success. Our son committed to out of state College without a waiver in place. He didn’t have the other options your son has, but we moved forward, despite some anxious times, it all worked out. Hoping you hear soon!

So officially 4 weeks since awarded 4-year scholarship. What makes me crazy is that the AMI’s were completed months ago and waivers were granted from the others within 2 weeks. This is a medical issue that was resolved in 2nd grade. I understand there are thousands of people looking for waivers at this point but how can the other waiver authorities be so much more efficient? If we get the waiver after the semester starts will we get reimbursed for tuition? It seems so unfair? Sorry, just the lack of sleep and anxiety hitting hard.

You're not alone. My DS has an LOA to USNA and has been waiting on the waiver since early March. USNA hasn't requested AMI. In the meantime he received a waiver to USAFA in a matter of days. He's been holding out for USNA but with decision day fast approaching it looks like he'll be heading to USAFA...

I get it, lots of sleepless nights at our house until the waiver came through. AROTC is the largest organization I believe and they take the longest, but they are also the most likely to grant the waiver. I would have your son reach out again to his AROTC ROO a week after the last contact. He should tell them they are his top choice and ask if they can see any progress on their side. I think they can see it before he will in the Dodmerb portal. He could confirm with his Dodmerb tech that AROTC definitely has his AMI available to them. The school also may be willing to offer him some room and board first semester while he waits. He should ask if they have anything available for that. Yes, if the waiver is granted before the end of first semester they will cover tuition. Monthly stipend won’t start until he contracts. Pulling for him because Army needs top quality candidates!

We were told for AROTC that you will get reimbursed for tuition but since she wouldn't contract until the waiver is granted that she would not be eligible for stipends that were missed while waiting.

Thank you, for some reason our ROTC contact has been unresponsive (which makes us crazy). We did speak to a random person in the ROTC unit last week who had nothing to say. We also emailed our DODMERB tech twice with zero response ! Where is everyone? It’s so frustrating.

Can you specifically try and reach the Recruiting officer? Is it a large Battalion? Did he only have one AROTC school choice? Email the tech again, or the help desk. That’s very frustrating indeed.

Yep did it all.. yes it’s a large school and we already accepted the scholarship for it … the other school he got awarded was smaller and would have been so much more accommodating but DS prefers the large school life .. thank you for your suggestions :)
