AROTC Waiver thoughts

Just heard back from Dodmerb and they said they haven’t heard anything from AROTC waiver authority so we should talk to our DET ( I’m assuming that means the school recruiter?) Who has been non-responsive . Feeling so defeated !

Last week we got ahold of our AROTC detachment and they have someone that handles all medical related problems with that college. They emailed the Waiver Authority and we got an update that they were actively working on our case. We were originally told the wait was 6-8 weeks from AMI turn in so ours ended up being 7-1/2 weeks. I’m sure everyone’s case will be different depending on how much info they have to review. Hope this helps

Wow you are so lucky they were able to help you! Our AMI’s have been there for months bc we applied to other SA and NROTC earlier.
Thank you for the info!

We were in the same boat. Our first AMI was for West Point back in December and when our son didn’t get into West Point he won the AROTC scholarship and had to do a whole other set of AMI’s for it. Our first medical exam was in October so it’s a long journey. Good luck and I hope you hear soon.

Omg I wasn’t even thinking of having to do more AMI’s. We have to commit by Monday and I really don’t know what to do. Such a risk, but he really would rather have the whole college experience and not do SA, so we are leaning towards taking the risk.

We received an email yesterday from her ROO with a questionnaire to fill out & they asked her how DODMERB was going, so she said she is waiting on a waiver. Not sure that will help anything nut crossing fingers.

We got an email from the school recruiter and he gave us the contact person there who deals with all this stuff . Unfortunately, she is out until Tuesday so I think we will just go for it. Really hard for us as parents to let him say no to SA but if he doesn’t want to be there he will not thrive. It’s his decision and he is aware of all the risks. I hope you hear good news soon!
