My son will be attending NMMI as a sponsored prep to he USMMA. I am trying to coordinate airline reservations and I saw that he is to arrive On Aug 2. but I wasn't sure if there was a set time or not. According to the calendar the cadet parent meeting is Aug 3. IS there any other thing that parents need to be there for? Thanks for any information you can give!

I was on the phone with the USMMA Admissions office this morning concerning this issue. In the very near future you will receive a mailing from the USMMA with your travel options. Should you elect to have the USMMA make your travel plans, your son will be receiving an e-ticket to arrive in Roswell on 2 AUG. The mailing should also inform you of what to do if you make your own accommodations for travel. Either way the Prep cadet will need to attend a meeting with the Director of the USMMA Admissions at NMMI on 3 AUG at 0800 to sign his/her contract.

Please understand that we (NMMI) welcome parents during this matriculation time. However, the USMMA will pay for, or schedule, only the Prep cadet. The contract "signing" is specifically for cadets only at the request of the USMMA Admissions Director. Also please understand that once your son matriculates with us he will be placed into training and will be unavailable to you for any social contact. Once "signed in" here the new cadet begins the "21-day" period of no contact with family (except US postal mail).

I know some of this sounds confusing. Please call me and I can explain it better. Most of the USMMA Preps arrive here without parents. Given that they begin training almost immediately after they arrive, parents don't end up spending much time with their kids anyway.

NEVER Trust a "Spell Check" Program

Correction to paragraph 2, line 4: should read "will be "unavailable" to you"...
