Ask a Doolie Anything!

Calculus 1 is the lowest math you can take, I'm sorry!

If you have already taken it in HS, you can still take it again at the Academy, right? Are you required to take math all four years? It's not a huge deal that I can't go back to Trig. I have an A in Calc (so far!) but it is a HARD class!!!

Are you required to take math all four years?

Some folks validate certain courses, and the majority of majors at USAFA require far more math. That being said, I believe the minimum standard for fuzzy majors is typically something like:

* Calc 1
* Calc 2
* Modeling or Analysis type course (Diff Equations?)
* Statistics (Intro or otherwise)

Can you tell us some the quotes you would suggest memorizing? or is that classified info.

I wouldn't waste time focusing on memorizing any quotes before you leave, but if you want to, it'd be good to know:
-The Air Force Song (all stanzas)
-Major General John M. Schofield's Graduating Address to the Graduating Class of 1879 at Westpoint
-Invictus by William Ernest Henley
-Thomas Jefferson's quote beginning with "He who tells a lie..."
I can't really think of any others. During basic you won't have too many to memorize, but there'll be about 2 or 3 new quotes every week you'll need to learn for your weekly knowledge tests.

Also, USAF sayings like "Aim High" and "Air Power from the Ground Up"

Yes, Sir/Ma’am
No, Sir/Ma’am
No excuse, Sir/Ma’am
Sir/Ma’am, may I ask a question?
Sir/Ma’am, may I make a statement?
Sir/Ma’am, I do not know.
Sir/Ma’am, I do not understand.

Always a bit of controversy on the order of the responses. We always said "I do not understand" before "I do not know." Other Cadre would get mad at us for saying it in that order, but that's how we were taught. Not a big deal or anything, but every Cadre is different.

Don't stress over trivia for BCT. You'll learn it.

...half the point of learning that stuff is to force you to learn and perform under pressure. Learning it before then actually lessens its utility.

QBsdad, from my experience at USMA, the athletes are very well taken care of and will have team tutors and mentors whose only job is to help them manage their time and workload (they do have a heavier workload than the other cadets).

Are cadets watching games during playoffs? Do they have time on Sunday to watch NFL?

What is the church situation like at USAFA? During BCT, is your only option the chapel, but then during the academic year you can go to churches off base? What about the cadets who don't go to church on Sunday mornings during BCT? What do they do during that time?
Also, this may be a really stupid question, but do you get any down time during BCT? I'm assuming they probably give you some time where you can choose to do things like shower, get your room squared away, write letters, etc., is that correct?
Finally, what is the living situation like at Jacks? Is it a bunch of beds in a tent pretty much? And this is kind of a stupid/embarrassing question, but do you all have to shower together (males with males and females with females, of course!)? I thought at SS they told us that was the case.

During BCT, various religions/denominations will have chapel services. Those who want to go, can. Those who don't want to go, have that as free time to write home, read, relax a little, etc.

Are Doolie's able to join the ski/snowboard club and participate in ski outings?

Does it look bad if you got a B in say chemistry, but it was honors? and the same applying to one year of English ( so a B in honors English) whilst you got straight A's in algebra 2 and geometry? I'm not sure if it looks bad that I didnt take honors math? Also, is a B considering bad for the academy???
Sorry for the many questions!
