Hey everyone!

I just finished up my last exams last week, so finally have time to kill for the first time since high school. This forum was one of my only outlets to ask questions before reporting to I-Day, so I’d love to pay it forwards! Feel free to ask anything about plebe summer/plebe year, etc. because it’s very fresh for me.

1.) What does the day-to-day of plebe summer consist of?
2.) What was the hardest part of Plebe Summer and the academic year?
3.) How did you or your fellow mids cope with homesickness?
4.) What do plebes do for fun?
5.) Your worst experience at the academy so far?
6.) Your best experience at the academy so far?

How to Plebes deal with illness? With so many new people and such high stress, I can only imagine the epic battle the plebe immune system must wage. I also heard that adjusting to the food can make for some uncomfortable bathroom trips. Is that typical? If so, what do plebes do?

Congrats on nearing the end of plebe year! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

At USNA during Plebe Summer, Plebes will qualify with something virtually indistinguishable from this:

It is a Sig Sauer M11-A1, based on the P228 pistol (The new ones are based on the P229).

Don't know about electric shavers. For rifle, they qualify with the M4. My Plebe used iron sights. They may have ACoGs on them now.

With bringing appointees from all 50 states, US territories and also foreign countries, plebes get sick. It’s called the Plebe Hack. Stress, exhaustion, constant sweating then into A/C, mixed with 1200 Plebes from all over the world, they get sick. Plebes are watched closely for illness and there are tons of medical resources available. Fever, cough, congestion, loss of voice… everyone who has ever been at USNA has gotten it.

Jeez. A Sig P228 and an M4??? These kids are lucky!

1911 .45 and a beat up M16A1 back in my day!! ;)

Gonna take my kid out to the range before he reports. Have a Ruger 5.56 with a holographic and a Sig P226 Legion. Close enough to what he's gonna shoot!

I set my DS up with a Sig M11-A1 for his H.S. graduation. He had previously built his own M-4 (well - not select fire - but typical M-4 specs) in my shop. He shot expert at pistol during Plebe Summer and was one point off for rifle, so he had to settle for Sharpshooter. :p
