Hello, so my case for DoDMERB may get a little complicated, but here's a brief summary: I reported in my initial questionnaire that I have had bronchitis before. DoDMERB then requests all my bronchitis/lung records from the age of 12, as well as my pharmacy records. After receiving my records, I find out that my doctor has SOMETIMES put down VARIANTS of asthma in some of my bronchitis/coughing cases. However, my doctor always told me these conditions occurred from the weather or side illnesses such as the FLU. Along with antibiotics, she prescribed me albuterol with a nebulizer for five days every time so my bronchitis was ensured to go away. However, this was not a constant or long-lasting medication process. I would be done with my medication in a few days, and in most cases, the antibiotics were able to fix it quickly.
My doctor has written a separate note with my records stating that I am an avid athlete that is medically cleared. I have had episodes of coughing which are completely intermittent and nothing I have had is truly asthma. She even performed a spirometry test that day (which was normal) and my vital signs including the pulse oximetry and overall examination were normal. She also told me there are many types of asthma, and I just had coughing which any child could have, but I did not have the typical inhaler/exercise-induced asthma that some people have.
Now my question is: Given that the word asthma is a red flag to DoDMERB, even though they will view my case differently, I should still be prepared for the worst. I have been accepted to the Air Force Academy as of March 17th (the big wave), and I hope my case does not deter anything. Thus, should I be prepared to take additional lung tests such as the Methocoline test, and if so, how/where can I schedule these tests? Sorry for the long post but I wanted to provide all the info. Please let me know. Thank you for reading!
