Has anyone received an approval on a waiver for Asthma? Son got a great letter from his allergy doctor even though he failed the last stage of the MCT (26%). The other 4 stages he was under 20%. Doctor stated he had excellent lung function and that he highly recommends him for military service.

Not yet... we have been waiting 3+ months.

My DD's asthma waivers were denied last year by USNA, USMMA, and AROTC. Time wasn't on her side last year when she was going through the academy acceptance process but she has now submitted an appeal to AROTC, which included a pulmonary function test (PFT) and recommendation letters from the pulmonologist and her cadre. Fingers crossed for your DS!

DS got a waiver from USNA, he had not issues for years. The highest he got on PFT was 8% on the last level. 20% is max I believe. Still waiting on USMA (waiver requested), USMMA (LOA & waiver requested) & CGA (to my knowledge not requested and may not unless selected)

My son has not yet received a waiver although he passed the methyl test and dr wrote he does NOT have asthma. Bduett, how long did it take for your DS to get waiver from USNA? Is there anyone at DODMERB my son can contact to get update on his status?

If all the active codes in DODMERB are gone for USNA, then they have it, just a matter of waiting to get it. If the active codes are still there, it may mean they haven’t received from doctor. If that is the case I would try to get the reports and submit via email directly to DoDMERB.

It took approximately 1 week (a full 7 days). To get his waiver granted status. He also had 2 other DQs … PFT/asthma was last issue to get remedial completed.

That being said all his active medical codes have been resolved for another SA the same time and still nothing - it’s been over 60 days. The waiver authorities work on their time.
