Would West Point consider band a type leadership? I'm drum major of our marching band, first chair french horn, lead alto sax in jazz band, i play mellophone in pep band, and i can play 7 or 8 instruments. Does West point take any of these activities into consideration, because i can switch out some of my band activities for other activities? Thank you all for you time.

Yes they will, especially drum major.

yeah they will def. look at the band stuff and esp. the drum major. admissions likes to see that you are dedicated to what you do and are good at. keep with it. i wouldn't devote ALL of your time, though. remember its a miltary academy, not a band academy.

If you like band then stay in band. There are many musicians at West Point. Drum major, first chair and lead sax are definitely a leadership positions. Make sure you include it when you apply. Just think - you will know how to march and keep time. It's all good.
My daughter who is a cadet played the trumpet from 4th-12th grade. She was in jazz band and concert band - among other things.

When you get to West Point you can be in the Spirit band if you want.

Thanks, i was just wondering. Although it takes a lot of time, its not the only thing i do...

I did two years of marching band, my senior year as sax section leader, and four years of jazz band/ orchestra. Will that be considered in the USMA/USAFA admission process to score in extracurriculars/sports-like activities? I also have some work experience during the summer and 250 volunteer hours in high school. Any thoughts?

Activities yes. Leadership for the Section Leader role yes. Not looked at as a sport though. Make sure that you do above average on the CFA to dispel any thought that you aren't athletic enough.
Oh, and 250 Volunteer Hours counts for 0 Whole Candidate Score points

It's definitely an extracurricular, but they probably wont count it as a sport. Also someone's gonna say it so I might as well, Volunteer hours don't factor into the WCS.

Nevermind, beat me to it🤣

My DS played sax and flute in middle school, never had the band in high school, and got accepted into the USMA Spirit Band this year as they need more flute players.
