Does anyone have any advice on how to practice for the basketball throw?

There are usually people playing basketball at the gym, so that isn't an option for me. I wouldn't be embarrassed to spend time throwing a basketball across the yard, but there is snow on the ground outside.

Any advice?

IMO, practicing throwing may not be

what is most important. Distance will come with Technique and strength. Technique mostly. Read the Sticky's on it for the best way to do it, and the only way that really adds decent distance. The exercising for the Pull, Push, and Sit Up's will more than make one strong enough to do it well, but one must 'practice' the proper Technique. IMO...

hit up a soccer goalie for tips. I played bball in high school and NEVER threw a ball like that! it's a goalie throw.

read the "oh no the basketball throw" sticky on the USMA forum.

I agree that technique is the key and upper body strength so keep hitting the pullups and pushups.

good luck!

Falconer, the good thing about practicing in the snow is that you can see exactly where the ball hits! You won't even need a spotter. Definitely read the stickies on the USMA page.

When I did mine I practiced only once (stupid). Upon testing I threw a 54' and a 53' my first two tries which are horrible for a male. I then got really worried and with fear and frustration in my eyes I hurled it for the last time and let out an extremely loud grunt. It was really embarrassing because the volleyball team was about 20 ft away, already looking at me confused because I'm throwing a basketball on my knees, but it went 67'. Long story short, don't do what I did and not practice.
