My DS had a black backpack. I forget the brand. My point here is: "mark" it somehow. Most incoming will have black backpacks. When the cadre are screaming at you to grab your bag QUICKLY, it helps if you know which one is yours. Yes, you can swap out backpacks later but my DS had retainers and such and didn't want to lose them. He used red hooks that stood out in a crowd.Tips or suggestions on backpacks? Links are appreciated!
Shame they discontinued this backpack. My son loves his North Face Router. He took it to I-Day with him in 2019 and it fit everything on the packing list but his running shoes (which he tied to the side). He still uses it for class and as a carry on when flying. https://www.thenorthface.com/shop/router-nf0a3etu
Would you recommend investing in a good backpack that can be used during the academic year or just using the one they give you?First realize that you will be issued a backpack at the academy.
The backpack you bring doesn't have to be special (though I would avoid bright colors). It just needs to be able to hold everything you're taking with you. Some prefer a small duffle bag because they are easier to carry in your left hand. Both types will be placed in storage at some point during I-day.
DO NOT bring a roller suitcase.
You will be required to use the issued one the first year (you know - uniform). After that, there is some flexibility.Would you recommend investing in a good backpack that can be used during the academic year or just using the one they give you?
This isn't true anymore. As unrecognized C4C's we were allowed to have any backpack as long as it is in regs (black and no large markings). I would recommend getting a nice backpack because the issued one is pretty bad and I use mine for carrying luggage when travelling. You will be required to use the issued one the first year (you know - uniform). Having said that, many cadets use the backpack or duffle they bring on I-day as luggage when traveling home for Thanksgiving and winter break.
Ah, that must be relatively new. Good to know. This isn't true anymore. As unrecognized C4C's we were allowed to have any backpack as long as it is in regs (black and no large markings).
