Are BCT squadrons going to remain the same for the academic year? Thank you in advance!

Yes, with the exception that your flight will be moving to the academic year squadron together.
So Aggressors Alpha flight goes to CS01, Aggressors Bravo flight to CS02, etc.
Aggressors(CS01-CS05)
Barbarians(CS06-CS10)
Cobras(CS11-CS15)
Demons(CS16-CS20)
Executioners(CS21-CS25)
Flying Tigers(CS26-CS30)
Guts(CS31-CS35)
Hellcats(CS36-CS40)

Get ahold of your state parent association, they can let you know your academic squadron. My boy just found his out last night and it's not the same as his BCT squadron. Your BCT squadron is only for the first six weeks, then you transition to your academic squadron.

This is based on my experience with class of 2026. DS was in one squadron during BCT, and another for the academic year. As a C3C, he been assigned yet again to another squadron. I've been told that they don't change after that. That said, I've heard otherwise as well. we'll see. Good luck to class 2027!

BCT squadrons do have your academic squadron in them. It depends if you are ABCDE which is really 12345
Aggressors (CS1-CS5)
Barbarians(CS06-CS10)
Cobras(CS11-CS15)
Demons(CS16-CS20)
Executioners(CS21-CS25)
Flying Tigers(CS26-CS30)
Guts(CS31-CS35)
Hellcats(CS36-CS40)

So Aggressor Echo is academic squadron 4

You mean Aggressor Echo is squadron 5 right? 😊

This is true but not quite like it sounds. Here's how it works: There are fewer squadrons during the summer than there are during the academic year because there are fewers cadets (since it's only freshmen). Over the summer, basic (freshmen) cadets are divided into 8 squadrons A-H. So, let's say there are 1200 cadets in the class of 2027, that puts 1200/8 = 150 freshmen cadets in each summer squadron. Those squadrons are each broken into 5 smaller units called Flights of about 150/5 = 30 kids each. They are labeled lowercase a-e. These 30 are your kid's "people". So, in a family hierarchy, the summer squadron would be like the grandparents and the flights would be nuclear families. Then, when the whole cadet wing comes back for the school year, each of those flights of 30 kids (the "nuclear family") will together move into a full academic squadron of about 120 cadets, composed of all classes (about 30 from each class). So Aggressors flight a, being the very first flight in the very first summer company, will become Squadron 1, which is generally just referred to as "One" (each one also has a patch name associated with it, kind of like a mascot name). Aggressors flight b will become Squadron 2 and so on. So while they will get a new company name for the school year, they will be with the same freshmen. They will still generally live nearby to other kids from other flights within their summer squadron since academic year squadrons are given living spaces in order, but other than that, they won't be seeing those kids all the time (and they won't know those kids nearly as well as they know the kids from their summer flight anyway). Their flight from the summer are the kids they'll know best and be living with all year.

USAFA will generally shift kids around to other companies once during their time there. It used to be after their third class (sophomore) year. I think recently it's been after their freshman year.

Great explanation except squadrons instead of companies. Your USNA roots are showing…LOL. My USMA-grad father-in-law learned Wing, Group, Squadron, Flight, Element last summer while DS was in BCT.

Once they scramble after their first year they will stay in that squadron for the duration of their cadet career. We did scramble after 2 years in my day. They will stay close to that initial “family” even after scrambling, It helps that they can visit other squadrons after Recognition at the end of the first year. Before Recognition, they are not allowed to be in any squadron but their own.

Ha! You're right! I can't help myself :)

My boys are both Class of 2027 and are in Executioners (E Flight) and Flying Tigers (D Flight) so their "Baby Squadrons" will be Rock Hard Redeye (25) and Black Panthers (29). Hard to believe they are already halfway through second week of BCT 1. Looking forward to mud photos in 2 weeks.

I can't wait for the mud pictures!! I really hope webguy separates them by squadron, if not I know how I will be spending my free time 😁

Hi everyone, on another topic, does anyone know what general timing is of acceptance day? Trying to book flights and logistics. Is the parade in the morning and how long can you usually hang out at USAFA with your cadet? I appreciate any insight.

Last year the Acceptance Day parade was at 9am, so we planned on getting to Stilman Field at 8am, which meant picking up food before then. The chick-fil-a near the North Gate knows its A day and has their full menu available in the morning, or you can pre-order. Bring lots of cold drinks - it was hot last year. The parade lasted around 90 min and I believe we are able to hang out with our cadet until about 12:30 or 1pm. A lot of parents bring their cadets stuff that they need for the school year that they couldn’t bring to basic. Unlike parents weekend, parents are not allowed to help their cadets carry things to the dorm, so keep that in mind and dont bring more than they can carry.
