I am applying for a Project GO scholarship and I am an AS100 cadet right now in AFROTC. I have a question about being spontaneous in essays read by military personnel.

So here's a rundown of my situation : I really want to study abroad with Project GO but my GPA is a 3.03 after having a rocky first semester filled with the hurdles of responsibility that a young man who is just now living on his own must face. How much of a disadvantage does this put me at?

So on my Project GO essays I have figured that since my GPA isn't going to make me stand out, I need to do something that will. The only thing that I can change right now are my essays; will being spontaneous hurt me or help me given that military members may be reading this and I have a relatively low GPA a

There are many different Project GO opportunities, and each typically have their own application process. I wouldn't worry too much about the GPA aspect. We sent a midshipmen on Project GO this past summer and she only had about a 3.1 cumulative GPA.
