Hi, current USAFA cadet and I was having trouble finding a study guide for the AFOQT. About to start 3 deg year and I am taking the test this summer. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for the best AFOQT study guide book that covers avionics in good detail because everything I seem to find on Amazon either has bad reviews or a ton of good reviews but it is said to lack pretty much all aviation info. Thanks!

Is taking the AFOQT not just a formality? When my class took it, I don't remember even getting a score, and I really don't remember anyone studying.

I was wondering the same thing - we all took it, but no one studied and the scores didn't count for anything

Well, I've heard of a lot of people studying for it in recent times and multiple upperclassmen have told me that it counts towards some kind of point system or something for being a pilot. It pools together with all the other things you do like flight hours and so on. All it is really for is for you to be more competitive towards receiving a pilot slot.

(Former AFROTC kid here)

For us in AFROTC the rated scores from the AFOQT combined with your TBAS and flight hours (and your GPA) made your PCSM (Pilot Candidate Selection Method) score. So they always told us pilot wanna-be's that the Pilot and Navigator section of the AFOQT mattered, but if you did good on your TBAS and got some flight hours you'd be competitive.

Not too sure how it works at USAFA, although I think the PCSM score is still composed of the same elements for everyone.
