I'm just full of questions today!

DS is a competitive swimmer and is considering swimming with USNA if he receives an appointment. He hasn't even received a nomination yet but wonders when is the best time to approach the USNA swim coach to express his interest. Is it a moot point until the nomination is received? He's got good times - currently falls in about the bottom third of the fastest times shown on the USNA sports website and is still improving.

I'm a swimmer and I emailed him months ago. It doesn't hurt to introduce yourself and he'll give you an idea if you're a good fit for the team.

Wannabe, did you simply include your times and accomplishments are direct the coach to a recruiting site? DS used to be on berecruited .com but took himself off. He had decided not to swim at a conventional college but is considering it at the Academy. He got tired of receiving emails from every D3 private school out there who needed a moderately good swimmer.

I filled out their recruiting questionnaire with my times, then followed up with a personal email to the coach introducing myself and restating my times.

If they're interested they should respond to the questionnaire.

I got a response to my email telling me I wasn't right for the program and listed some times closer to what they were looking for.

That makes sense. Since he falls in the bottom part of their current times, I'm not surprised that he hasn't been contacted. All his best times were listed on that prelim questionnaire. Can't hurt to put his interest out there though I guess. Thanks for the info.
