Just had my DODMERB examinations yesterday, everything seemed to go very well:biggrin: but I guess we will see soon enough!

Anyway, had a question about my blood type-it wasnt asked for on any of the examination forms. It was kind of surprising, isn't this a pretty important piece of information, in case (God forbid) a blood transfusion or something is needed down the line?

I have donated blood before and as such have a donor card that states my type. Will I just be asked about this when I report to my ROTC battalion this fall?

At this point knowing your blood type isn't critical. I'm not in the military field, but I'm sure there will be lots of blood work in your future and your blood type, a sample of your DNA and other tests will become part of your record at that point. Also, at least in the civilian world, no blood transfusion is done until after a confirmatory blood typing and screening is done. However, as always, Larry Mullens is the man with all the answers and I would defer to him!!!

mumsyto3 is exactly correct. Blood type is NOT a part of the DoDMERB process. You may get typed for Blood Drives while in ROTC, if you choose to donate. However, if you are successful and get commissioned, AFTER ROTC, you will have a significant number of opportunities to donate blood for your official purposes, DNA identification being one of those.

As mumsyto3 said, there are NO transfusions being accomplished without typing and crossmatching in the field. While dog tags still carry that information, medical personnel well NEVER rely on dog tag information for transfusions.:thumb:

Not sure about the other academies but USMA required blood typing only upon entrance. It was done with immunizations etc...

Service Academies are different. They require immunizations and blood typing prior to entry. DoDMERB is NOT involved in that process and my answer was specifically regarding ROTC. Thx for the double-check though:thumb:

Provided you don't respond again :)smile:), consider the issue UNCONFUSED:thumb::shake: Thanks
