According to the admissions chat rep this morning, the application has been reviewed. There has been no email, no portal update, no “golden envelope”! Anyone know know how long things take after a review? If the app was reviewed and there was no intention of an appointment, wouldn’t there be a rather instant decision sent?

No

Here is a simplified view of how the Admissions Board (and basically how Promotion Boards work in the Navy) is to think of three "piles" or bins. After they review the record, the best will get put in the YES! pile. Those that are the lowest will go to the NO pile. The rest are deemed acceptable but are in the "Maybe" pile.

At that point the YES! pile will go to the Noms/Slates area. IF early in the year, they might get an LOA at that point as USNA is sure that they are wanted. As Noms are submitted (and service noms are already available), Appointments get offered. As the year progresses, they (Admissions) start to narrow the maybe pile from both sides - the top of the maybes move to the YES pile and the bottom of the maybes move to the NO pile. As you probably know, the top and bottom are classified by Whole Person Multiple (what USNA uses in place of WCS). This continues until the end when what is left of the maybes transitions to the Wait List. TWEs can be sent out to NOs at any point but seem to have gone out in waves this year.
