Boarded/Under Consideration after the first two days of October board?

Hello everyone,
I completed my AROTC scholarship application in time for the October board which is meeting the 19th-23rd. It says we will not see our selection status until 7-10 days after the board meets and mine currently reads "boarded/under consideration." On the portal it says that means I was moved to be considered in the next two January and March boards. I was confused because I thought I would receive my selection in the next week or so, not two days after the board convened. Has this happened to anyone else or is it just going to stay like this for the time being until the actual results are posted in the upcoming week or so? If anyone has some input I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!

I wouldn't look too hard into your status until the official notifications go out. Like you, I was perusing the forum to find out what Boarded/Under Cons. versus Boarded meant and these are my two cents -- if you are BOARDED, you've probably won the scholarship then and there because your stats were so high that it practically guaranteed you were high enough on the OML for a scholarship. If you are UNDER CONSIDERATION you aren't guaranteed to win the scholarship that board, but depending on your spot in the OML you still can. If you're still UNDER CONSIDERATION after decisions have been made, you did not receive a scholarship from that board. I say this because people marked Boarded won scholarships, as well as people marked B/UC. The overriding factor was, I saw some people did not receive scholarships who were marked B/UC, but I didn't see anyone marked Boarded not receive one.

However, I have no actual information on what those mean, so take what I say with a grain of salt. That's what I've concluded for my own sanity after being marked B/UC.

DD said her AFROTC status reads "eligible" and that she will be reviewed this week. She said notifications go out on the 30th?

Which scholarship? I think there are 3 or 4 types?

For AROTC, my DS' portal says "Boarded Under Consideration." It then says "This applicant was boarded by one of our Selection Boards," which is the same description it gives next to the "Boarded" category. Are the descriptions for Boarded and BUC usually the same?

Thank you, this helped a lot. I am definitely a little anxious but will see what happens :)

@Swimmomstl I saw both types, however for the first board, mainly 4 year.

And yes @prairieparent, right next to B/UC you'll see the same description, but if you go to the Additional Information tab and hit "Selection Status", on the Boarded/Under Consideration section it reads "Applicants in this status have been reviewed by the October or January Selection Boards. Unfortunately these applicants were not selected to receive an offer from either board. However, these applicants remain under consideration and may receive an offer at the conclusion of our final Selection Board which is scheduled to convene on 3/18/19."

I don't really trust this for three reasons -- one being the dates are for 2019, two being there is no section for what "Boarded" means, and three being that it hasn't been written next to the B/UC from the main tab you're reading from.

My guess is it was written last year, before the third board sometime for people to read.

Time will tell. But if there is anyone out there who has a portal entry showing won a scholarship after being marked "Boarded" please do tell. That would likely mean anyone currently marked B/UC didn't make it in October I'm afraid...

I’m going to try to help here. Folks a lot of casual assumptions in some posts above. My ds won a 4 yr in the second Board a couple of years back and his status jumped from boarded to boarded under consideration to boarded and back before winning. Do not draw conclusions that boarded meets receiving. Or that b/uc means you aren’t being awarded a scholarship. Incorrect. My ds was b/uc in both boards 1 and 2 and won a scholarship. B/ uc means it’s under consideration. Especially while the board is still meeting. Wait for your decisions and please watch the irresponsible correlation to conclusion jumps. If you’re strong enough to even be considered in board 1 that’s encouraging. And I agree board 1 has more 4 years awarded traditionally. Good luck all

Just to clarify but does an "eligible" status reflect that a candidates application was not strong enough to be considered in board 1?

"Eligible" is what is shown on the Air Force ROTC portal for candidates at this point in time. It states that it has been received and processed. It then further says the board will review starting Oct 19 and results released on/near Oct 30. I just think that it means that you've got everything in place to be able to be considered. Eligible for Army just means your SAT and GPA scores meet the criteria and you are eligible to complete your application. I believe mine said "eligible" until the fitness test was all that I had left to do, or maybe it changed right after I uploaded the fitness test that it changed to "interviewee." So if you're still showing "eligible" in the Army ROTC portal, you must not have everything in yet maybe? Or something like the interview, still needs to be posted?

What is being discussed above regarding "Boarded" vs "Boarded/Under Consideration" is in the Army ROTC portal only. I hope that helps to clarify!

I will 2nd what @Herman_Snerd said - my DS was awarded a 4-Yr during the 1st Board last year - his status changed as stated above. Based on my experience, the majority - if not all - of the scholarships awarded during the 1st Board are 4-Yr scholarships. This year may be different.

This is a marathon, not a sprint. Many of you will be waiting until April to get final word on whether you have won or not. Exciting times, good luck to everyone.

My daughter is also Boarded/UC as of today. Does any AROTC applicants have a status of Boarded at this point? Just wondering if everyone goes to B/UC at this point until the results are released for the Oct board. The B/UC status is listed after "Boarded" and right before "winner". When she first showed me this, I was thinking B/UC was a step ahead of "Boarded" b /c of it's placement in the list on status... any insight?

That’s my take on it also.

If you have some time - go back and read all of the threads from last year. They started about this time and went all the way through April. There definitely seemed to be a pattern to the updates in the portal.

I went through this with my DS who was awarded his scholarship 3rd board. Following the posts back then showed that although most moved to boarded right before winner, a few did move to winner from B/UC. Another thing that was an indicator is that the screen to select colleges went to read only right before the scholarship was won. Keep in mind that in the past only a small percentage of scholarships were awarded on the first board, with considerably more awarded on the next 2 boards. You can look back at posts over the last year or 2 to get an idea of the stats of applicants who won first board scholarships.

My daughter’s shows the same right now - boarded/UC. I just read through several posts and from what I can tell they all say that until the board is done - then some switch to boarded ( ???? ). Good Luck to all ! Does anyone’s say boarded now ?

You guys are reading my mind about my daughter's b/uc status. Just got to wait.

What does ds mean btw?

Lastly, do 3YRs historically go in later boards?
