BODY FAT CONTENT WORKSHEET

The Navy doesn't take body fat measurements outright. If you are within height and weight standards, you don't have to do the tape test (i.e. have your body fat percentage calculated).
Thanks... but the Army sent him DA5500 form for his body fat. He is 8 lbs off the the range for his height (on the light side). He wants to do both together for single visit to his doctor.

He did the calculation based this https://www.calculator.net/body-fat-calculator.html 6.1% in athletes range.

Otherwise qualified DS just received notification from USAFA that he needs a body fat test done. He was 5'10" and 152 lbs. at the time of the physical a few weeks ago. He is in excellent physical shape, muscular, and eats very cleanly. Is this something to be concerned about?

I don't understand why your son needs to do body fat test --- he is within the wight/height range but my son is 8lbs less than the minimum weight for his height.

My ds was 4 lbs underweight and only USMA asked him to do a body fat test. He turned in the form and never heard another word about it.

Thanks for the chart. He is right where he should be according to the chart. I don’t understand either. Maybe it was an error.

Regardless your son should just finish the test and turn it in. I am pretty sure he will be fine.

Did some research on Army body fat calculation (reference https://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/DR_pubs/DR_a/pdf/web/ARN7779_AR600-9_FINAL.pdf )

It uses height and circumference (abdominal - neck) to find the value on the table. DS is 70 in height 14 in circumference (28-14). So there is no value in the table. He is off the range for minimum body fat calculation. Too skinny to join the army ? I really can not find the minimum body fat value for disqualification but the maximum one.

Maximum allowable percent body fat standards
Age group: 17–20 Male (% body fat): 20%
