Hi y'all, I will be attending Norwich in the Fall, I need to get boots but I'm not sure what to get. Norwich has a few recommendations listed but some cadre have told me not to bother with them. I don't know what brands to even consider so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

Visit a Clothing Sales store at your nearest Army base. Try 3-4 types (prices varies) of shoes. You’ll be surprised that the most comfortable for you is not necessarily the most expensive. If it is, then that’s fine.

My DS loves his Rockys.

I went to Ft Meade and tried on Danner, Rocky’s and Nikes. I ended up buying the Nikes. They fit the best and got good reviews.

I would be careful on investing too heavy in boots now. The standard issue boots are fine if you take care of your feet and the biggest issues most folks have is transitioning from a life of tennis shoes/casual shoes to boots. There is a proclivity to buy a boot that is "light" or "sneaker-like" and those are fine for going back and forth to class and certain activity. HOwever, for things like rucking, FTXs or training you may want to go with a more durable boot that can withstand some rigor. They require a bit more breaking in but you get more durability. Just an opinion and I own three types of boots based on activity for that reason.

I got rocky's. They are extremely nice boots, durable, comfortable, break in easily, and came with nice comfy soles. I highly recommend them. Other cadets in my battalion also talk up Nikes and Garmont's so those are good options too.

I personally found Danner to be really comfortable and durable.

Garmont NFS's are a good mix of a garrison/field boot, and they break in super quick. Garmont's and Oakley's are typically what we see the task force come in over the summer, but Garmont has better field boots.

Glad to see this. Got our son the Garmonts and they fit him the best.

Danners are great, but have always run one size too small for me and my DS. Lalos are great summer boots - great drainage and support.

My DD is in incoming freshman, so her experience is a little less robust, but she has a pair of McRae boots that she has worn for Sea Cadets FTX and other outdoor "adventures". She plans to take those boots, but she requested (and just received) a pair of Nike boots for those campus days when an athletic-type shoe might be more comfortable than a rugged boot.
