I was recently able to obtain an interview with one of the region posts and during our brief informational phone call, he had mentioned that I needed to know who my state senators were, governor, city mayor, district superintendent, MOC, and much more. I was wondering if there were any other "positions" I need to know since I've already forgotten. Additionally, what were some other frequent questions they've asked before?

Boys State is looking to cultivate future civic/political leaders. So knowing current leaders would be a good attribute.

I can speak from experience that you’ll most likely be asked about your elected representatives so, yes, you should know everyone from your mayor to the President.

Also, you should be ready to give a short 1-3 minute speech about a topic of their choosing, know some current events happening in the country, and answer some general questions like “what do you think is the greatest threat facing America?”

I assume that not every Legion post asks the same questions but those are some of the questions that stood out when I interviewed last year. I came into the interview not knowing anything about the type of questions that would be asked, but already knew what to say based of my interest in politics. If you go into the interview prepared you should be set, but the chances of you being selected to attend are all based off how many other people applied. For example, My legion post was only able to select 1 person/ high school.

Some interesting questions that you've been asked. I've done literally hundreds of Boys State interviews in my role as a post and County Boys State coordinator and can truly say that I've never asked any of the questions that you experienced or suggest. My interviews and others that I've sat in on are much more about understanding who you are, what kind of kid you are and what your goals/college plans consist of.

There were definitely also a few of those sorts of questions, but in my experience it seemed as though, on top of your how you are as a individual , they were interested in if I had the general knowledge and capacity to have meaningful debate/give speeches for elected positions.
