I am aware of the competitiveness of branching AD Cyber, however, I am interested in the branch as it seems to provide an enormous amount of unique opportunities. For those who are Cyber Officers or have knowledge of the branch, what can I do to make myself the most competitive? I am a CS/CE major and applied for a few ARCY internships for FY23 and am doing the best I can from the advice I have heard thus far. I do not believe in doing a BRADSO, but this branch seems to be worth it for that option.

If you have your heart set on Cyber--or any other branch for that matter--leave as little to chance as possible and do the BRADSO. My DS branched Signal with a BRADSO for that very reason. As a 1LT, he received a dream transfer by request based partially on the new unit knowing they'd have him for that extra year.

Also, don't limit your internship search to military postings. Now is the time to enhance and broaden your skill set. You'll get hemmed in soon enough after you commission.

Best of Luck!

Thanks! I am very hesitant to even consider the BRADSO, as 7 years is a very large commitment to a job I’ve never had. I see my 20s as a prime time to build a family and get married hopefully, and I would be very disappointed if my active commitment hindered that in any way (however I don’t believe it really would). I’m really doing the best I can to maintain an autonomy in my choices going forward because I do realize I’m a 19 year old at the time, and my desires/goals may change as this journey continues.

Thanks for the response again and I hope your son is absolutely crushing it!

Our son is a Cyber officer who has a house, a dog, a sedan, and a fiancee (to be married next year). His Cyber commitment is not getting in the way of his adult life plans.
