Hi! My daughter is a candidate for USMA and we are filling out her Dodmets application. She was diagnosed with bunions last year but the doctor said they weren't bad and she didn't need surgery. They don't cause her any discomfort and she can run, jump etc without issues. Do you know if she would be disqualified because of the bunions?

You may want to go read Mr. Mullen’s “FAST” Sticky at the top of this forum. The applicant can email him with her questions if she is stumped after researching the primary sources online.

If your daughter hasn’t yet gone to the DoDMERB home page and read every item in the left-hand side menu items - FAQs, the process, workflow, etc. - now is a good time for her to research that part of her application process. There is a recent thread in this forum with a screenshot of that DoDMERB home page.

This may also help as a reference:

This is the applicable standard: " (1) Current deformities, disease, or chronic joint pain of pelvic region, thigh, lower leg, knee, ankle or foot that prevent the individual from following a physically active avocation in civilian life, or that may reasonably be expected to interfere with walking, running, weight bearing, or with satisfactorily completing training or military duty."

It's not the size, it's the pain or dysfunction that is caused. TMI but as an example. I have a golf ball size bunion on my left foot and a slightly smaller one on my right foot. My feet is significantly deformed... BUT...both bunions are above the nerves and cause me no pain. I walk 18 holes on the golf course repeatedly and play RB (at least I did before COVID) :wiggle:
