C/O 2028 Wait List: The Wait Listed Bunch

I can’t imagine the anxiety and frustration so late in the game. I agree that, at this point, any remaining appointments will likely be due to something like medical not clearing, a last-minute medical problem that precludes attendance, etc. The odds are long, but not zero.

(Likely doxxing myself here but oh well you people are nice) Headed to A&M at Galveston campus. I was accepted to the engineering program at College Station, but they're sending me to Galveston for a few years because they were full. While I'm there, I'm joining their NROTC program as a college programmer because I hyper focused on the Acadamy and completely forgot to apply for the scholarship. 😅

I guess for the meantime, any successful reapplicants have any advice for things to do over the summer that would really bolster my resume?
DS was in a similar position, but had the NROTC scholarship - they were able to help him start at CSTAT in Engineering. Might be worth a call to the Corps leadership if that is your target.

I respect whatever USNA admission does but wish someone like BGO or admission counselor or whoever in charge of handing waitlist gives us a little hint what is going on with waitlist. Such as number of waitlisters taken off the list or still waiting, etc rather than keep us in the dark and send us one last notice to say yes or no
First, BGO's don't know any more about what is going on the waitlist than the Candidate. We don't have a magic crystal ball.
Second, Admissions isn't trying to keep any one in the dark..they will close the loop and give you a final notice yay or nay at some point, but until then, there is really nothing they can tell you. This is not a numbered wait list where you are ranked and the next person can fill the spot..its more of a puzzle or 3D chess, where the next person has to fit certain criteria.

As others have noted, plan for the worst and hope for the best.

My DS is still NAPS waitlisted which I assume will drag on up to the start date in July as well? I feel like by the time he hears, he will be too invested in plan B to accept if it is a yes. I hope not!! Trying to stay the course….

So sorry that all of you are still on the waitlist either for direct or to NAPS. It only adds more stress and uncertainty to an already stressful and uncertain process.

Remember the axiom, which unfortunately some are experiencing in real time…

You will love the Navy, but the Navy will never love you as much as you love the Navy.

We are really pulling for those of you that are still hanging in there on the WL
A little update on my DS today and a timeline of how things have gone.
DS was on USNA WL and on June 3rd the portal changed to NAPS conditional offer LOA. Total curveball but great.
He was DQ'd medically so we needed a waiver. On 6/6 we were notified AMI was needed, and we were able to get it very fast (6-11).
Today DODMERB showed waiver granted and portal showed under "my progress" DODMERB status in green USNA waived.
Just wanted to share and give hope that stuff can happen and get done fast. Portal still shows NAPS LOA and no email yet but I expect it will be soon. Don't give up the ship. Cried again this morning and it is still hard to believe.

Congrats to your DS and your family. I wonder if the timeline from USNA WL to NAPS is typical, or if it's just one of the myriad of ways that admissions works sometimes.

Great news.

You’ll eventually see the latest update if this, but in the meantime, here’s some NAPS info (things don’t generally change a lot):

Congratulations! GREAT NEWS and update on your waiver. My DS is still USNA WL. I asked if he would take a NAPS offer if by some chance he was given one. His answer, ABSOLUTELY! 💯 % Oh how I wish there were enough spots for all those still waiting.

This late in the process, things can and do move quickly once figured out. Ie: a waiver can move through. Think about it, at this point, the brunt of the class is decided, and there isn’t a huge pile of waivers to be processed, for example.

Can’t say I’m not aggravated. DS does not need a waiver and is still waitlisted for NAPS. How do USNA waitlisters that need waivers get a spot over those that have been waitllisted all along for NAPS with no waiver needed?

I hear your frustration.

It is not like distinct lines at TSA at the airport, where you stay in your lane, if you’re Precheck or Clear or not. There are candidates at this point who are definitely on the knife edge and can fall either way, no matter what waitlist they are on. A NAPS waitlister could be taken for direct admission, no matter how many might be on the USNA waitlist. It’s fluid at this point, with Admissions prioritizing according to their needs for the classes at USNA and NAPS. No portal updates, nothing like that.

Often, it has to do with nominations and types, putting some limits on options. These are the last hard steps of putting the class puzzle together, which always means wonderful candidates are not offered a place at either USNA or NAPS. Formerly, USNA did not tell people if they were on a waitlist. Now they do, to enable those candidates to decide if they want to get off the rollercoaster or ride it to the end. They are a long way from the days where a fat paper application would be submitted in the fall via U.S. Mail, and sometime in April, May or June, you received an actual BFE (big fat envelope) or TWE (thin white envelope).

Never more true:
“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”
- Abraham Lincoln

Best wishes for a successful outcome.

Yeah that is a good question. It seems to me a waitlister needing a waiver is an uncertainty, whereas a waitlister already medically qualified is ready to go should a spot open up.

Here is a current example of why some could still be on the WL. This late, everyone is specific and intentional. Yes, this is from a different SA, but it demonstrates why there is a USNA WL. Every year, there are late decisions being made.

Couple of things:
-Apples and oranges. With a FEW exceptions, those who have been offered NAPS or who are on the NAPS waitlist have not been found to be fully qualified for USNA admissions. Therefore, admissions won’t take someone from a NAPS waitlist and give them a USNA appointment because they aren’t eligible.
-Imagine yourself in the shoes as a mom of a hopeful on the USNA (or NAPS) waitlist…would you want admissions to be solely deciding who is next off the list based on whether they might need a medical waiver? Their record might otherwise be outstanding and the medical issue could be something that isn’t complex. Medical issues might be an input, but it shouldn’t necessarily be THE input when calling the next number.
