I’ve submitted my nomination application, but I haven’t received any updates regarding an interview schedule or any contact at all. Would it be better to ask about the progress now, or should I wait until they contact me?

It depends upon the timing and the particular nomination you are referring to. With my students, Sen. Butler's office informed them quite awhile ago about being selected for interviews or not. You may want to reach out to her office. Sen. Padilla has not historically held interviews. That seems to be true with my students this year, too, as none have notices at this point in time. With an October 31 application deadline, that office may issue invitations later this month as they have had just two weeks to work with all of the nomination applications. If you are speaking of your particular Representative, with the due date for the application in mind, you may want to check on the interview timing with their office. I hope that helps.

I received an email from Senator Butler’s office saying that I wasn’t selected this time. I’m still waiting for responses from Senator Padilla’s office and my House Representative, but since it’s only been two weeks since I submitted my application, I’ll give it a bit more time. Am I the only one who feels like these two weeks have felt more like two months?

What part of CA are you in?

I submitted my application at the end of August, but there has been no response yet.

I’m just curious to ask, you had an LOA and Senator Butler’s office did not select you?

At the time I submitted my application, I hadn’t received an LOA, so I submitted it without mentioning one. Later, I did receive the LOA, but I didn’t update my application since I planned to mention it during the interview. Then, about a month ago, I received a rejection email without any interview request. In this situation, would it be worthwhile to appeal to the office for another chance?

So sorry to hear that.🙁 While I do not have the answer to whether or not an appeal to her office would be appropriate, I would suggest you update your LOA status to your remaining nomination sources if you haven’t already done so. Best of luck to you.

I originally thought that the service academies would send the list of LOA recipients to the congressional offices.

I'm also in Southern California, and the same thing happened to me. Applied for Senator Butler's nomination, got rejected, then got an LOA for USNA a few days ago. Still hoping for Padilla or my House Representative, and I've let them both know about the LOA.

Senator Padilla's office does interviews - at least they did 2 years ago. My DD was notified the first week of December that she was selected for an interview and was informed that her interview was the following day (virtual). If they are doing it the same way, you should hear something soon - but be prepared that your interview may be at a moment's notice.

Definitely, update MOC for sure. Never assume anything. They may have missed it in the haystack somewhere. I missed out on Senator Butler's deadline (09/18) - Why so early with short notice? Anyway, I keep updating my Rep with any changes in my application. Maybe they're annoyed and that's why I haven't heard from them:p

Yes, same with my daughter. Got notified of interviews with Senator Padilla’s office then had her interview the next day or a couple of days later. Don’t remember exactly because it was two years ago.

DS2 is a recruited athlete, but he hasn't heard anything from Senator Padilla and got turned down by Butler. He did have an interview with his representative ( District 47). We were told he would hear in 2 weeks.
