Anyone still out there who is competing for or has received a campus scholarship? Since ds is out of the running for a national scholarship is there anything he needs to do to make sure he is competitive for the campus scholarship? Advice please.

Goaliegirl's two offers came much earlier in the process (March) from units that we had been in regular contact with during the year. She let them know her objectives (hockey and ROTC) and was asking questions about how to make it work.

So if I had to guess, I'd say the level of interest demonstrated both in the unit and the school (the whole package) is going to make your child's application rise to the top of the stack when the unit has say in a scholarship award. They want applicants with an agenda, not just a history.

That's good because we have been in contact with his #1 school for months and they know that we have committed to this school and their program. We go to orientation 2nd week of June ( it was the earliest one we could sign up for). While there ds will be doing PT test and interviewing then he will be placed on their campus OML.

If your son is anything like you he will do just fine. You've always had that can-do attitude and keep moving forward. That more than anything will keep him high on their list when it comes to any campus-based scholarships.

It's just a shame that his school didn't have enough national scholarships for him.

It looks like my son is out of the running for Cadet Command to offer a Scholarship also. We have been in touch with the Battalion and the Major about if he doesn't get a Scholarship offer, then he is very interested in the Campus Based. We recieved an e-mail last week that he is sending my son for the DODMERB Physical and to come up and get his packet. We went this week and everything looks very good we think from what the Dr.'s said. We e-mailed the Major and told him we was done with the Physical and he replied they have to wait till CC is done which will be by the first of June and then that first week they will make a decision on who they will offer the Campus Based Scholarships too. He did tell us the PMS is wanting and are looking at who has showed the greatest desire to be in the ROTC program at this College and that they know how bad my son wants this for his future.
I would start calling and e-mailing the PMS to show and let him know how bad you want to be in thier program.
When my son went for his interview the Major did say that my son will score the highest from his interview and that all his scores should be high but what they score him cause of his ACT was a little low from what I've heard that some of the other applicants has much higher ACT scores. My son's GPA was 3.5 unwaited and he said that was good and they will also look at the fact he took several waited classes and took several College dual credits.
So I don't think the Campus Based offers will look as close to the scores as what CC did. They are looking for what they have accomplished and the desire from what our PMS has said.
I hope this helps. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he will get the Campus Based Scholarship. He has decided that if he doesn't get the CB then he will take the Fall semester off college and go SMP so he can get his basic training over and AIT and then start in College this next Jan. for the Spring Semester.

Thanks phemp.
It sound like we are doing what you have done. I just want to make sure we don't leave something out or miss something in the process. It sounds like you've got a good shot at it. Let us know how it goes.
