Campus tour during summer?

Are there campus tours during the summer? Our son is a sophomore and is planning on starting his application next year. He is attending one of the sports camps this summer. He is flying by himself there but my DH is flying there to pick him up and spend the weekend in Colorado Springs. Are there any possibilities at arranging a campus tour?

I am looking on the Academy website and doing more research but thought I would ask here because so may people on this forum seem to know all of the answers for all things USAFA.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Google USNA Visitor Center. There are walking tours year round for any visitor. You can walk on with govt-issued ID (driver's license) and self-tour the public spaces.

Edit: so sorry, didn't catch USAFA reference until posted.

Not to sure they have self guide tour maps for outside the cadet area. You are not allowed in the cadet area that I know of. You best bet is to call the Visitor Center at 719-333-2025.

Our son is in Colorado Springs June 14-21 so it looks like there are no official tours at that time. I was just hoping he could tour during his visit to save us $ and keep us from buying another set of plane tickets to visit at another time during the school year. Visiting during the school year is a challenge because of his sports.

Thanks for all your responses!

It still might be worth taking the self guided tour especially around the Chapel area not only is there a lot to see at the Chapel itself but you can get a look at the cadet grounds from their. I've lived here 20+ years and I still like just walking around.

Sorry keep posting on this topic. If you decide to do the self tour I would check the visitor center web site to see if it's closed to visitors. It is a military base after all and security comes first and may they close the base down to non-DoD ID carrying personnel.

Thanks! They will do self-guided. Son is going to soccer camp all week at USAFA so he will be staying there and get to experience some of the campus.

Per my DS, when the students are there for sports camps they live in the dorms and even have some meals in Mitches. This is a pretty good tour of the cadet area and i suspect there will be some cadets around supervising which will be a good chance to speak with them about USAFA.

Another thought... Hook up with your local Parent's Club and let them know of your intention. They are an amazing group of people and will quite often volunteer one of their DDs/DSs who's there during that particular summer session to take you around. Even better than a generic tour, you'll get some great insights from someone "back home" that your cadet can relate to. We've experienced this first hand; twice.

On a related note... Neither my wife nor I were much for participation clubs previously. That changed when we were exposed to the larger USAFA family. I can't stress enough the overall caliber of the people you will meet; it becomes instantly clear where these amazing young people come from. Please trust when I tell you that these are folks you will truly enjoy associating with.
