Can anyone share some of their advice/experience on my situation?

I’m a 2027 applicant to USNA and currently have an LoA and nom. The only pending item of my LoA is my medical examination/DoDMERB. I originally got DQ’d and a waiver was requested by USNA on 9/21. I understand everything is backed up, but has anyone else had a waiver granted from around the time mine was requested?

I’ve been in touch with my admissions POC quite frequently, but all he says is that things are very delayed and that he really doesn’t know what’s going on. Should I call admissions since it’s been almost 3 months and USMA already granted my waiver?

If anyone can share their experience on a similar situation or advise me on what to do please do so. Thanks.

I cannot speak on behalf of the waiver process, but I can give some advice on how this game works. I was an applicant last year who was rejected on April 14th, which means I sat on a complete application for four-ish months. The game nobody likes to play is called the "hurry up and wait game." From what I understand, every ball is out of your court. This is the hardest part about the application process.

I also had a waiver requested on the same day. I emailed last week to ask for an update and received a concise email explaining there are no updates on my waiver at this time. So I guess like NGeorge1 explained, it’s time to just wait it out.

Yeah that seems to be true from what I’ve heard. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I guess all of us in this situation will have to wait and see. It sucks though because who knows how long we will be waiting.

At the very least, you'll learn about military. If you cannot control it, stop worrying about it. If they want you, they will have you. If they started a waiver request process, that means they have some interest. Just cross your fingers and forget about it.

Yeah facts

My Class of 2024 Mid had the exact same situation. LOA and nom, only thing in the way was being DQ'd and subsequently waiting for a waiver. Can't remember the exact dates, but it was around November that the LOA was received and January for the nom (because of the way it's done in our state). Had to do A LOT more paperwork and some more medical testing for the waiver. Got the waiver some time around early to mid May. This of course was pre-COVID before all the backups and delays (just the normal backup/delays), so timing is a lot different now. Hope that helps.

That certainly does help! It’s good to know that it can take that long and still be granted. Thank you.

First, nobody's situation is the same. Some waivers are almost automatic, somethings can't be waived. There is not much benefit to hearing if someone else has a waiver if your situation is completely different than someone elses.

USNA says "most" people will know by April 15 -- any expectation beyond that is on the Candidate.

Bottom line, be patient...worry about what you can control.

And atop all of those things already mentioned, the DoDMERB system catastrophe has tossed all the dates in the blender and poured them in the yard. No one knows anything this time around. Go for a long run, talk to your family and friends, veg out: all the stuff that'll be hard to do as a swab next year.

Noted. And yes, I probably should’ve realized everyone’s situation is not the same, but that’s another good point. Thank you.

Will do. Thanks for the feedback.

I posted this in another thread, not sure if it helps you or not: My daughter had her exam in late August/early September. She had her waiver examination completed 9/21. Her portal was just updated Saturday 11/19 with Medical completed. Everything is now checked in her portal except Nomination. She completed her last nomination interview tonight.

One of my son's many sagas in his journey involved having his files reviewed again for his (then) newly awarded NROTC scholarship that he got while being a college programmer at his unit. Mind you, he was already DQ'ed by DoDMERB, but had a waiver in place for USNA from his application in the last cycle which they carried forward. Of course, that waiver doesn't transfer to an NROTC unit.

When DoDMERB reviewed for NROTC, they asked for his pediatrician records back to 2013 or so. They saw that he had complained of being light headed in one of his visits. (They were concerned about an undiagnosed heart problem, I think).

Boom, DQ'ed (again). And that transferred to his Academy medical qual. as well. A great big WTF!!?? And we were talking in April-ish, when the Academy was deep into the weeds of making appointments.

I got my son into see my cardiologist's practice, he had a full work over, 24-hour halter monitor, EKG, ECG, etc. as requested by the Academy. Finally got the all clear from the cardiologist and submitted that to the medical group. All this happened right around the typical "last call" that the Academy does for appointments and TWEs (April 15-ish).

I'm almost positive this was why he was put on the waitlist and not given a direct appointment. They wanted to make sure he was fully clear medically.

His was a good news story. Hope yours ends up the same!

All feedback helps. Good luck to your daughter!

I had an LOA on the condition of medical and Pres. Nom and was just waiting on DoDMERB. It took about 2 and a half months to go through after both examinations before I got my appointment (examinations were at the end of August for me, received my appointment in November). Just be patient and it will go through eventually. If its taking a while they should send you an email saying you're qualified but they haven't sent your scores USNA. Thats what happened with me. Just be patient and it will go through, I called admissions and emailed my BGO and I was just told to wait. Hope this helps.

I have a possibly major update on my portal now after i just checked - my medical examination section is now checked off! Does this mean that I'm good? I believe the check means I was granted a waiver but I am just wondering if anyone knows for sure. Thanks.

It should mean that.

But you can always reach out to the admissions/medical team to check. Maybe get on the live chat when it is available to ask if you are having a hard time getting a hold of people?

I Hope so, but I’m going to make sure. My BGO checked his system and said that it shows I’m qualified. I’m still unsure of how long it takes to change from an all conditions met LoA to an appointment, but hopefully it pops up soon!
