Hello all,

I'm a sophomore in high school and hoping to go to VMI in three years.

Problem is, I have a mild stutter. I can talk normally most of the time but have to interject breaks to not stutter. It's rarely a problem but still exists. I'm not planning on pursuing a commission.

Does this disqualify me from VMI?

VMI2021+3 -- such a condition might affect your medical qualification if you were to seek a commission -- I don't think it would affect your medical qualification for entry into VMI; however, to be sure, call or send a respectful email to the appropriate person on the VMI Admissions Staff. I'm certain they will be glad to hear from you and will be helpful to you. Here is the link:

I have a BR with a stutter seeking an Army Commission. I don’t know the status of his commissioning goals, but the stutter hasn’t caused him a lot of problems or anything.

That is great . . . I am not a doctor . . . like all medical conditions, a waiver will depend on the circumstances . . . what I have read is the Army, for this condition, is concerned about "communication" . . . especially under stress and being able to be understood over the radio . . . I bet there is a way to be assessed and get the waiver
