After reading some of the threads on the CVWs, invites, etc., I thought I would share my thoughts on our recent experience. Others may find it helpful.
We attended the CVW last wknd with our DS. If possible for candidates and their families, I strongly recommend attending.
After checking in on Thursday evening, DS was assigned to a Company where he dropped off his gear. We then attended a joint candidate-parents session, where several current Mids discussed their backgrounds and an overview of the admission process. The candidates were then dismissed and we didn't see DS again until Saturday morning.
There was a full six hour schedule the following day, Friday, for parents. It included two robust Q&A panel sessions. The first one had two admissions officers and a parent of a current Mid. The second one had four Mids, one from each year, talking about life at the Academy. There was a session with a professor focusing on STEM, and an in-depth tour of the campus. As parents, we found the entire experience highly informative.
The next morning, Saturday, we picked up DS. He had spent the previous 36 hours as a "drag" for a Mid 4/c. Everywhere he went, DS followed: classes, work outs, meals, activities. He slept on a cot in his Mid's room in Bancroft Hall. He shared with us that he sat up talking with his Mid and his roomies (3-man room), learning about life as a plebe, their application experiences, etc. The conversation continued over the next 1.5 days while immersed in life there.
DS thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and has since committed to applying. Given our completely separate but parallel experience, we support his decision. It was time well spent for all of us. DS now ventures forth on the windy road of an application process. Fingers crossed for him - and us!
Good luck to all.
