The Candidates who turn down there appointments , for whatever reason, does that mean it opens up another spot for another Candidate? Or does the USMA appoint a certain amount ( like 1400) hoping to get 1200 spots filled?

USMA

JUst sat in a USMA brief this afternoon. the magical number this year is just below 1200 if I heard correctly

Yes - as someone turns down an appointment, it could be offered to someone else until the class size is reached.

That is how the approach has been in the past - offer over the class size knowing that a certain percentage turn the the appointments.
This year it is different. The class size is being very carefully controlled so as to not go over 1200.

Today - April 20 - is the deadline to accept/decline appointments from the second wave that went out the 1st week of March.
So - more appointments could be offered depending on how many accepted or declined by today.

Good luck to those still waiting. I know it is stressful. Hang in there.

I am also wondering the same thing. It seems pretty late to be accepting soldiers though, doesn't it?

Last I heard from the NG liasion (16Apr2013) they still had the majority of NG/Reserve soldiers (22 soldiers in all) to go through. But I guess no news is good news so far!

Thanks or all the information. If 22 is the majority wouldn't that be a really low number of soldiers competing for the 85 slots? (Especially compared with previous years)

Like the NG liasion the board can accept just 10 or all 22 soldiers. It basically depends on what the board wants and in bold letters he put that does not guarantee acceptance. Also, there were only 22 soldiers that were physically, academically, and medically qualified. Last, there has always been a low number of Guard/Reserve soldiers to apply and make it this far.

(My apologies to the moderator I kinda went off of the topic of the thread)

They will use the remaining NG/RES nomination slots for USMAPS candidates who do not have nominations.
