Hi,

I am preparing to take my CFA and working on my pushups.

Question: Do I need to match the form to the tee as in their instruction video? I am able to make 90% angle on my elbows when I do pushups but my elbows are out (like wings) instead of being tucked in near to chest. I think it is mostly due to the structure of my hand/elbow.

Is there anyone with a similar situation as mine and been successful in clearing CFA?

By the way I received Nom from our district to USMA.

When in doubt, go to the primary source. How does your form compare?
If you still have questions, contact an official USMA POC. This is not the time to guess or ask an anonymous Internet forum, given USMA being the sole SA to want video - that should give you a clue as to the importance they place on form.

There may be flexibility on the point of form you are asking about, if video and this link differ. Get clarification from an official source, practice those email and telephone skills!

Good luck!

@Capt MJ thank you for the reference. Based on the link, I have the form and 90% angle. I was just hesitating to contact USMA.
I am not sure if I should send a video from my mock and have them give me a go.

You should never hesitate to contact USMA if you have done due diligence and still have questions. You will have to advocate for your soldiers one day; do no less for yourself.

The video (have you double-checked it follows the instructions on self-ID, angle of filming, full-body perspective, etc.) is supposed to be from your CFA of record, as I understand it.

Videos are required for both pushups and pullups/flexed arm hang. In addition to comparing your practice videos to those available online (Admissions website and CFA instructions), you could also send them to your FFR for input. Keep working on them - good luck!

From my experience, you can do either tricep (elbows tucked in while going down), or wide pushups (elbows facing outwards from your body and forming a T when you go down) for the CFA as long as your upper arms are parallel to the ground when you go down each time and you get your elbows completely straight when you go up. It's personal preference because both versions work different muscles.
