We heard that GMC doesn't have a swimming pool. If a CGAS student is not proficient enough in swimming at the time of reporting in, will he/she be given swimming lessons at GMC to prepare for SWAB year? We heard rumors that they go to a hotel swimming pool, but is that true? How often? Does anyone know if there will be real swimming lessons by instructors (or just occasional casual swimming left to themselves?)

I would be down at the local pool wherever you are right now with a private instructor.

DD took lessons last summer and this summer in anticipation. We were really hoping she'd be a guppy by now, but she's still struggling to swim the full required length and treading for five minutes. She could definitely use continued frequent practice to build endurance but wasn't sure if she'd have regular access to a swimming pool at GMC.

No there is not any swimming lessons provided to the cadets by GMC. I have never heard of the cadets using a hotel pool for swimming practice LY, maybe in the past this was something they worked out on their own with the hotel. Your DD would then need to make arrangements to get to the hotel pool on her own via possibly another cadet who has a vehicle or taxi. The taxi service is not expensive. The campus and where hotels are located are not in walking distance.
