Gabe -- each year is different, but I'd say based on your stats above your are competitive to receive an appointment to VMI.

Here is a link to the class profile for the Class of 2021: http://www.vmi.edu/media/content-assets/documents/admissions/Profile2021.pdf

Thank you! I will be applying to USAFA, USNA, and USMA also. (keep in mind that I WILL be getting my ACT score up to 30-31.) Overall, what could I do to improve my chances there?

Also, I forgot to mention that I will be applying for an A/AF/N ROTC scholarship.

Your application would likely be competitive for a Service Academy if your ACT were 31-33.

Other than my ACT, what would you (or anyone for that matter) recommend I do to boost my chances? Thank you

You are almost a senior, so there is not much you can do—however, at the same time, there’s a lot you can do, as it will consume a lot of time.

Attending Boys State will help.

While you are there, shoot for Governor/Lt. Governor or Boys Nation. If at Boys Nation, run for President or V.P. All of these things are worth WCS points for the Service Academies.

Try and become captain of your sports teams. Step up now. They’ll be chosen for next year before you know it.

Prepare for the CFA for the Service Academies. There is also a physical test you’ll need to take to be admitted to VMI, provided you receive a conditional appointment.

P.S,

I know a guy. If you can afford an ACT tutor, this guy is extraordinary. However, he is expensive. PM me if you’d be interested in his number. His help (and his homework) brought my score up from a 28 to a 33.

Hey GoArmy2022,

I don’t think VMI has an entrance PT test like the service academies have with the CFA. I’m looking at my Post View Portal right now and, under the “documents” tab, I can’t find any form of entrance PT test. Maybe you were confused with the VFT (which you take as a cadet) or the medical physical examination you have to provide for entry into the institute (watered down version of DoDMERB am I right?).

Sincerely,
