My DD is Triple Qd, had great letters of recommendation and BGO interview went very well. She is worried about not having the political connections to get a nomination. She did have a personal interview with the Dean of Admission during one of the forums. Does the Dean or the Academy ever contact MOC to request nominations?

Interesting. Thanks. There seem to be many paths to an appointment. Very few experiences appear exactly the same.

The answer is no. At most USNA will send a copy of an LOA to a MOC, but does not interfere with the MOC nomination-decision process. The nomination process is suppose to be apolitical, which is why the MOC normally establishes a Service Academy coordinator and/or panel. So, I wouldn't worry about any political ties. There are PLENTY of candidates whose views (and/or that of their parents) might be opposite to the MOC, but they still end up with nominations.

#1 You will never know if she is 3Q's at USNA until offered an appointment. Then you know.
#2 Appointment process is not politically motivated.
#3 Personal interview with Dean of Admissions means nothing.

This is the most difficult time for parents...the wait!!! Have patience it will all play out.

Years ago when DS started this wild ride he was told numerous times if he didn't have a political connection with his congressman/senator he need not try. He's currently a youngster at USNA. MOC wasn't even in the panel interview. I can't speak for any situation outside our own, but political connections had nothing to do with his getting in. There are several ways to receive a commission in the US Navy--the academy is only one route.
