Hello All,

I have recently finished my application for an AROTC scholarship. I understand there is no way to know my chances with 100% accuracy, but rough estimations are nice to have. I know there are probably people on this forum who are qualified to make pretty accurate guesses based on applicant's scores and extracurriculars. I have been thinking about my chances a lot recently and figured the best thing I could do was to make a post on here. So my final question is---> Based on the numbers below, what are my chances of receiving either a 4 or 3-year AROTC scholarship? Thanks in advance to those who are able to give an answer.

Fitness Assesment-
6:17 mile-------60 pushups------95 sit ups .

GPA-
Unweighted: 3.5-------Weighted:3.8 (Mostly AP and honors, some regular)

Athletics-
Varsity Cross Country all 4 years-----Varsity Track Junior and Senior Year-----Varsity Swim Team Senior Year----Weightlifting all 4 years

Extracurriculars-
Presidential Bronze Service Award---Eagle Scout---NHS----President of veterans service club---Boys State---Flag Raiser---School admissions tour guide---Astronomy Club---Political Discussion Club----First Three years of Highschool Job---

ACT- 27
English=31 Reading=32 Science=22 Math=23

My top Schools are listed chronologically as follows: Texas A and M, VMI, Virginia Tech, Citadel, Auburn

My major choice is Economics.

The reason I listed school choice and major is that I've heard it matters a little bit.

Overall, you’re ”competitive “, just not “highly competitive “ imo.
Leadership looks good, as does PT scores.
Study and retake ACT, math is really low.

The AROTC PFT is only 1 minute of curl ups and 1 minute of push ups. I just want to make sure you know this because 95 curl ups in 1 minute is quite high.

I apologize for the mistake... That's my score for 2 minutes on curl-ups. Unsure what the exact number is for one minute but I know I maxed out.

I am assuming the OP is a senior therefore it is too late to retake the ACT.

Don’t lose sleep over the low math score, it based in overall score.. The board gets minutes with eat packet, they don’t have time to nit pick.

You have done all you can do, it sounds like you have a strong packet. The two things that none of us know for sure are the comments and score from your interview and the results of your survey, which both have significant effect. Every year is different, my DD received a 3 year 4 years ago with a 3.5, 26 ACT, less varsity Sports. There are also examples on here of better stats that didn’t get a scholarship. Bottom line is you did your job and applied now all you can do it wait, no one here can get you what your chances are.

The schools listed will not have an effect on whether you receive a scholarship as it is based on OML although depending on if there are spots left at the school when you are awarded one may change where you are offered a spot.

Thank you for taking the time to let me know what you think. This is a very helpful response.

Thanks for the response. However, I've unfortunately run out of time to take the ACT again. Hopefully, it isn't looked upon negatively enough to hinder my chances of attaining the scholarship.

You can look back in the threads from last year. You do seem competitive when compared to last year’s winners. But don’t get discouraged if you don’t get anything on the first or second board because a lot of awards are given in the 3rd board.

Thanks for the advice. If you don't mind me asking, I've heard that once you've been reviewed on the first board, you cant be reviewed or given anything again (after the next two boards). Is this true?

My understanding is you get scored and put on the OML once, but you are rolled over to be eligible for all the boards after that. My DS was scored for the 1st board and received a scholarship from the 3rd board.

Oh ok. I understand now.

Also remember to apply to a school you can afford to attend without scholarship that has an ROTC program. If you are not awarded an AROTC scholarship, you can still enroll in the program, do well, and seek a 3-3.5 year Battalion sponsored scholarship. Also find out if your choice school offers a room and board scholarship for those on ROTC scholarship. There are other options if not initially selected by the Boards.
