I just wanted to know how my chances look for getting an NROTC scholarship. My degree is Electrical Engineering, and I scored a 1460 on my SAT with a 750 math, and I have a GPA of 3.85, and so far my senior year is pretty rigorous with all As. I shoot for my schools rifle team, though no captains have been named yet, and my physical fitness is manageable, but need improvement. Will my academics be enough or should I focus more on physical conditioning?

Make sure you can exceed the standards of the cadet fitness assessment, and your BMI is well below max. Standards have been recently posted in this section of the forum.

Unfortunately, (I'm pretty sure), rifle team is not considered a team sport. Any team sports? Do you have time to join some spring sports team and get a letter? Must be a private school with a rifle team.

Go ahead and put in the application, and make sure your parents do the FAFSA for you. You won't know without trying.

Even without a scholarship, you can do ROTC freshman and sophomore years, hoping to contract and join the SMP program. Or you can enlist in the guard or reserves and get some college money that way AND participate in ROTC. There are a lot of discussions of such paths fairly recently.

Always focus on physical conditioning, while keeping the grades up. It's easy to squeeze in pull ups, push ups, crunches. Running is a little more time consuming but you can always run from one activity to the next. DS used to run 2 miles to a wall climbing facility, do his climbing, and then run home again.

NROTC- is the hardest to get of the three according to some websites.

Your stats look competitive for most things (most schools, most scholarships, etc)
You'll need to start applying now as there is a board in November and the process takes time.

Here is information on the physical fitness test.

Remember- Scholar, Athlete, Leader when applying.

the will ask about leadership... Why NROTC... you will need to have a good reason.
