Hey there I was hoping someone can give me a good idea what my chances are to get into USAFA.
STATS:
3.69 u/w gpa
3.79 w gpa
1300 SAT
5 AP Classes
( my grades freshman year where pretty bad. But all my grades after that are nearly straight A’s)

I have 2 nominations to USAFA
And 1 to West Point

Passed my CFA
( not sure if it is just a pass / fail or performance effects chances of admission)

Student pilot and soloed

Licensed Emergency Medical Technician

JV swimming
JV soccer

200 volunteer hours

Numerous work hours

My ALO said I did really good in my interview( not sure how well I actually scored)

If some one can give an idea of my chances that would be great thanks.

You are competitive and in the running.

But your chances depend on the competition on your slates - so nobody knows.

My senator said that They don’t rank their nominees. Everyone nominee is submitted as “competitive”

No one can really give you the answer you seek. Your stats look good, but who are you competing against? How competitive is your the slate. Lots of qualified students don't get in and lots do, unfortunately it's just a waiting game.

Also, does anyone know if the CFA is pass/fail. or if my score actually controls my chances of admission.

It is pass fail.

But a small portion counts towards WCS. Enough to change the appointment offer? Who knows. I would guess not in most cases.

Yes, so if they are all submitted as unranked nominees, like you say, then the academy will look at them all on the slat and decide who they want. Do the other 9 all have a 1480 SAT, Varsity Sports, Team captains, 4.5 gpa, did great on their interview too or all they all similar to you, or not as competitive? You don’t know. That’s why the others who answered said it depends on who you are competing against.

Ok a few things here from what I could research and what I have been told, grade-wise USAFA mainly looks at grades 10-12 but don't but too much weight on that information. Also your SAT, hopefully you did better on the math section than English but that is a pretty solid score. USAFA takes into account what opportunities your school may or may not offer so don't let the 4.0 and has their doctorate by junior year stereotype worry you as much.

Also, it depends on where you are from, you're from Iowa-3 which in contrast to many places, isn't as competitive as others (take me, VA-8 where competition is either the or close to the hardest in the country). So you are probably above average in your area.

You have probably also heard a million times of the whole candidate score, grades are about 50-60% but leadership and athletics take up the rest which looks pretty sterling to me.

In summary, I would say your chances are decent so don't count yourself out. Also, do not discount USAFA prep, Falcon Foundation, or if you really want to go (which I have also been looking at) is the USAF enlisted LEAD program which would exponentially increase your chances should you not get accepted this year.

- Good Luck

From all that I've read on this forum regarding your chances, nominations and ultimately getting an appointment is like reading tea leaves or like trying to time the Stock Market, no rhyme or reasons, I think all are chances are about as good as playing a slot machine in Vegas.
