Changes to Air Force Song

Navy Blue and Gold was similarly updated in 2004 under the leadership of VADM Rempt, the “Singing Supe” (that’s another story).

And West Point changed in 2008. Who'd have thought the youngest service would be the last to change. Aren't the youngest the ones who are most in tune with the times. :)

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh!
Farewell to foreign Shores, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay;
Through our last night ashore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more, here's wishing you a happy voyage home!

The Navy's fight song still references boys. As long as they don't remove drinking on our last night ashore I'm OK.

Maybe the Navy's version but not USNA's version which has very different lyrics

Stand Navy down the field, sails set to the sky;
We'll never change our course, So Army you steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll up the score, Navy, anchors aweigh!
Sail Navy down the field and sink the Army, sink the Army grey!

Good, no drinking for college kids.

I see Goldfein is now a songwriter as much as he is a general. Heck, at this point I'm surprised they haven't removed gender references altogether.

I was/am proud of my classmate and the letter he wrote the force explaining the change. Jay Silveria (I trained that smack) has a great video on the USAFA youtube channel explaining it as well.

I imagine "Fingers" will get an earful next week. We're having a mini class reunion with him and his bride in DC...197 of us (at last count) showing up to "hail and farewell" our classmate, the Chief of Staff of the USAF. It's not been announced but we're all certain he's going to retire this summer. It's time and he wasn't named Chairman so...

I think 37 years is pretty excellent!!

I wasn't aware there was an official Navy and official USNA version; I thought it was two different verses to the same song.
Certainly a different perception of drinking now and in my day ..I am a proponent of letting kids learn to drink responsibly while they are in college instead of waiting until you get out in the Fleet/the World, where mistakes can kill your career.
