Hello, I was just wandering how difficult, or if it is possible to change careers after commissioning. For example, if you had a dream of becoming a pilot, but unfortunately got selected for an undesired career, is there still hope of qualifying for UPT? Would you have to fulfill your commitment first? And lastly, could you apply for SF as an officer?

There are paths to changing career fields. It is not very common, but happens enough to have precedent and process around it.

Other possibilities. Look at the Air Guard/Reserves once your ADSO starts to come up.
Inter service transfer. I knew several Army WO’s who started out as officers in other services.
One of the more famous ones. Novosel was once a passenger of mine on an airline flight.

UPT holds active duty applications yearly. Generally speaking the people who get picked up for it are high performing O-3s after their 1st assignment. Its difficult to get just because there are not too many slots out there. Statistically speaking the best way to snag a Pilot slot is out of USAFA and then ROTC. The Guard/Reserves are another good opportunity but they generally take a while to snag. Normally, candidates "rush" units for 1-2 years before getting picked up.
