Anyone have any information on the the issues at Chase Hall, what is being done to mitigate them, and what are the plans if any to improve the situation long term?

Yes, inquiring minds would like to know. What issues are you talking about? Corps issues? Building issues?

Building issues. Some mold was found in some of the rooms. They have been moving swabs around to allow cleaning. No, I don't have a schedule.

Mold Mitigation is a serious issue especially since I heard it involved the AC. Mold is never a little problem.

I think this has happened in the past (minus the A/c since it’s relatively new).

This is not the first time Chase Hall has had issues with things like mold. When I was a cadet, Asbestos was discovered in some of the Company Wing Areas and the passageway leading to the Bookstore - those areas were renovated and cleared of any health hazards. The point is - the building is old. With the exception of E-Annex, which was completed in 2005, the rest of Chase Hall has been around forever. I know looking at USCGA's Strategic and Budget plans, there are plans in place to renovate Chase Hall at some point within the next couple of years but that causes an excessive amount of money and there are other areas of the campus that need attention. Furthermore, USCGA derives their budget from the USCG - we are dealing with an aging fleet, older aircraft, land units that need updates and so much more. The downsides to aging are felt around the Coast Guard as a whole.

HOWEVER, I'm confident the situation is being handled by the senior leadership - and parents should be too - particularly because they've already begun moving cadets around to allow for the issues to be corrected. Frankly, your DS/DD will be fine and I wouldn't view this as a situation where parents need to be concerned. This is a problem likely encountered by college campuses across the country - Chase Hall is actually fairly modern compared to dorms at various civilian colleges. My brother was envious of the space and set up I had at USCGA compared to his experiences as a freshman and sophomore at Clemson and THE Ohio State University.

Not to mention the continuing renovation projects that started back in... 2009? Where they will segregate an annex and completely renovate it. Back when I was leaving in 2013 it was B-Annex (removing the last of the carpet. :eek2::eek2::eek2:)

There will always be ongoing projects in a building that old. Swabs will just suck it up and move. It'll be a re-rooming drill.

Which one is E annex again? The newest wing was completed after I graduated (2006) so it was in 2007 or 2008.

E is the one closest to Smith Hall.

I feel like at one point there was a sliver called E annex and the new part was added on to it.
