Choosing between ROTC programs

I applied for NROTC-MO, AFROTC, and AROTC. I was just awarded the 3-year AROTC scholarship and am wondering when I have to accept it. I am hoping to hear back from the Marines and Air Force before I make my final decision. Because of this, is it possible to accept my Army scholarship now and accept a scholarship from another branch if I get one?

Go ahead and accept the AROTC Scholarship. In the event you win the MO Scholarship, you simply decline the AROTC via the portal if you choose the MO. A word of advice, don't decline a scholarship until you have all of the boxes checked (DoDMERB...). You won the scholarship, decline it on your own terms if you have options. Some people here will say - decline your scholarship so it will open up to another candidate. That is not how it works. A declined scholarship does not open up a slot for someone else. The un-used funds are re-distributed for campus based allocations.

MO could be late March/April before final notice. Last year my DS was notified of the MO Scholarship on 5 March. My DS waited until the week before school started to decline his AROTC.

Congrats on your scholarship. Well done!

Wanted to ask on this thread instead of creating a new one.

I was awarded a 3 year scholarship today (which I am very thankful and grateful for), however I have already accepted my appointment to West Point. Should I decline or would it still be in my best interest to accept it and then decline it later down the road?

Are you DoDMERB qualified? My advice is to not be in a hurry to decline the scholarship. A lot of things can happen between today and the day you report to WP. Sit back, enjoy the rest of your senior year and make the decision to decline to ROTC Scholarship when you are 100% sure on your direction.

I stated this earlier - go ahead and accept it. By declining it, you are not "freeing up" a scholarship for someone else. Options are always good!

Congrats - what a great accomplishment.. WP and a 3-Year- well done!

Yes I am DODMERB qualified already. I will go ahead and accept it and decline later down the road in April right before May 1st.

Thank you for the advice!

I would hold on to it and then just let it ride out in the fall. You might hate West Point and quit, then you can fall back onto your ROTC scholarship. If you stay at WP just call the ROO at the school you accepted at and tell them. It doesn’t hurt anyone to hang onto it. You earned it.

@EEBTTF - Excellent advice. My DD was selected for AFROTC and NROTC - MO. She will be waiting for 3rd board of AROTC, and then weigh her options.

Should I accept my AROTC scholarship if I have also received an NROTC scholarship? I have not been qualified by DoDMERB for either yet, so I'm worried about declining one if I am medically disqualified by the other.

Accept them both, you have plenty of time to decide which one you want to use. Get through DoDMERB for both. Things can change over the next few months so leave all your options open. Congrats - great accomplishment.

Thank you! When I first read my AROTC scholarship letter, I was worried that I would have to make a decision between the programs by March without knowing my medical status.

It looks like the difficult decision now will be deciding which of the 3 schools I will intend to accept the scholarship for on the acceptance letter.

Good problem to have!

Dont decline the scholarhip until the end. You never know what will happen between today and when schools starts. Its a good insurance to have

Like @EEBTTF stated, accept the scholarships. NROTC and AROTC require that you respond within 30 days. AFROTC is different with accepting their scholarship. They require that you upload a LOA from your chosen university. As a result, they don't require a response until May, which is enough time for letters of acceptance to be sent to applicants.
