My son has completed all steps of his application and we are in the "wait and pray" stage so of course this is the time you keep checking to see if there's anything to see. When he passed the CFA over the summer, it was updated in his portal within a couple of days with a green Qualified. And each time he completed a step in the application, you could see the checkmark next to it. Is there anything else that will pop up in his portal while we wait? Or is that part done and we just wait for an email? The waiting game is brutal!

I don't remember well enough to answer your questions, but my advice is to forget about it. When first joined the hurry up and wait group, I checked my portal (at least) once a day. I think life was much more enjoyable when I let it go, decided what will be will be, and checked it every few days/once a week. Just my two cents! Best of luck to your DS.
EDIT: Sink/Sank/Sunk Navy!

@SnootyHen If your son has everything done and submitted then just settle in for the long wait. Have your son finish up any nomination applications, college applications, or scholarship applications if he hasn't done so already. Finish up all alternate or back ups plans. Keep working on any unrestricted scholarships. Two years ago when my son applied he heard nothing from the beginning of October until the middle of April when he was waitlisted. Then he received his TWE the Friday before I-Day along with several others that were still waiting. Tell your son to keep the faith and stay positive. Tell him to keep working out and to enjoy his senior year. Best to you and your son.

edit. Forgot to mention he did ask and exchange emails with his BGO once or twice with a question or two while waiting, He did ask his admissions counselor a question at least once during this time and received a reply back. The portal never changed from CPR until April. Just check the portal regularly (once a week or if really impatient, once daily). If there is a portal change and you haven't checked it you should receive an email telling you to check the portal.

He is definitely better at this than I am. I think it helps that he's focused on finishing his final season of Cross Country and about to start his last Swim season whereas I sit at the computer all day for work and think "Hmmmm, I wonder if there's any updates." I should tell him to change his password and not give it to me. LOL!

Train yourself to not check it more than once a week, and you will stop thinking of it so much! There was a time when I would check mine multiple times a day, just to see the same screen for weeks/months on end.

@SnootyHen remind your son to update his admissions counselor if he receives any additional awards or honors before the application cycle closes for example at the end of cross country season team awards, letter, 1st Team at League, sectionals, or state or just the fact if he competes in those.

Believe me, I am trying. It was a few times a day and I am proud to say I can now go maybe a day or 2 without looking. It's just so easy when you're sitting at the computer all day for work to pop over and check. But logically I know there's not going to be anything new for a while.

Thank you! Good reminder!

Yes, the waiting game is brutal!! In the meantime, just curious if your son has made significant arrangements for Plan B if the TWE arrives at the last minute? Always good to have a Plan B in place if and when.......
Sending all best wishes your way.

Waiting was one of the toughest things for the whole family because we could see how stressed DD was . By April , we figured it wasn’t happening and she had strong plan Bs and signed to swim with a SMC and had made peace with that and had planned to reapply . She wasn’t notified she was off waitlist until May 19. The waiting is indeed brutal , if at all possible try to put it out of your mind and not check the portal . Hopefully your son receives good news early , but also be prepared he may not hear until February , March or even later . Good luck !

Yes, he is applying for a NROTC scholarship and a couple of safe bet colleges and then will re-apply next year. His "safe bets" are still really good schools, just not his dream school. It's amazing to me how easy it is to apply to regular schools. Back in my day we had to hand-write them on the college's actual glossy application which you either got from your guidance office or had to request from the school. Between that and service academy procedures, common app is a walk in the park. I'm glad the kids have it though. No need to reinvent the wheel over and over.

Good to hear. Fingers crossed for Plan A, though!
And yes, the computer (plus the Common App) has made the regular college application process much easier, but less personal, too.
