I will be matriculating on Aug. 13th and I was just wondering what are some additional items that I should bring that aren't in the packing list. I've heard some people say to bring some civilian clothing and some say to bring none at all. What should I do? Is there also anything else that I should bring?

Nope. Just your happy place in your head. You're gonna need it. Pack only what they tell you. You won't have room for much else. When you pull up to your batt assignment, you take your things out of your car, put it on the curb, hug your parents goodbye and wait for instructions. The blue shirt army will help get you to your barracks and then the fun begins. Good luck and go Dawgs!

+1 on what @WytchiePoo said. I will be one of the people carrying stuff into the barracks. I am always amazed at what people bring and how they pack it. Bring only the things on the list and pack it so its easy to carry in as few trips as possible. Don't be that knob that shows up with 20 boxes and a bunch of loose items. Have your car loaded so that it is easy to unload and make sure all of your stuff is labeled.

Good luck!

Hope I see you there. Are there any plastic container sizes you recommend? I know we don't have much space in our rooms

What's the move-in process like? So we get our company and room assignments and do we go back out to bring our stuff into our rooms?

The ZipLock 10gal bags work great. Easy to carry and are disposable. Avoid large boxes and trunks (things that are difficult to carry). The steps in the barracks are winding and steep. Anything disposable is best.

There is a video posted on the Matriculation website that covers the move in process. There are also quite a few videos on YouTube that cover move in day. The short version is that you will be given a time window to report. You will get in your car and drive to a specified place where you will be given your company and barracks assignment. You will drive to that barracks, the Blue Shirt Army will unload your car and carry your stuff to your room (make sure you help carry!) We drop your stuff off in your room, say good bye to your parents and time for you get to work. Make sure you eat a good breakfast and are hydrated. My advice that I give all knobs as I leave the room is as follows:

What you are about to go through is hard. Break each day down into manageable pieces. Get through one task and get on with the next. Don't overthink it and don't look back. Break each day down! Many knobs quit the first day...first week because they get overwhelmed. Don't be that knob - break it down into bite size pieces!. Good luck and PM me if you ever need anything. I am in Charleston on a regular basis.

I also suggest you reach out to @glen - he is the resident Citadel expert.

A little advice.......make sure that your mom does not carry anything...ANYTHING. Trust me on this.

Lol…everything you wrote is the best advice possible - and you could have written it for all the SMCs, as you have experience with 2 different ones! Best advice, go light and just bring what is in your packing list, watch the videos, and when you get there - focus on one day at a time, listen to the instructions Cadre give you and tune out everything else.

Thanks, will I be able to go back outside to bring in more stuff or is it once I'm inside I can't leave?

Don't worry, only my dad will be with me since we're coming all the way from CA haha

You can make as many trips as needed. Typically we get it all in one trip. Try and get there as early as possible so you are not rushed.
