Hello all!

I'm new to the forum - and I apologize if I overlooked this information, but I have been searching high & and low, and embarrassingly enough for me, I must admit I'm not entirely understanding the nomination process.

I've been assisting my boyfriend with this process since about November of last year. It was a rush to get him to take his S.A.T's in Dec (the last one they would accept scores from for the 2015 class) and he has completed most of his application and is just awaiting his fitness assessment and academic information sent in from his school.

I see that nominations won't be accepted after January 31st. Obviously, its February 21st as I write this. Am I missing something or have we completely missed the nomination deadline? :frown:

Yes, Unfortunately you have missed the deadline. Most nomination deadlines with your Congressman are in October. Some were in December. I believe the Vice President's deadline was Jan 31st, but I could be wrong about that.

If your boyfriend did not apply for a nomination from his House Representative or two Senators by now, then it is too late. The process will begin again sometime in April, so I would suggest starting as soon as possible.

Thank you both for the quick replies. The April process - will that still be for the class of 2015?

Nope. That will begin the cycle for the class of 2016. Nomination deadlines should be checked with the appropriate MOC's as to when they will begin to accept applications for nomination. The application to the academy and the application for nomination are separate processes. The nomination is a requirement to complete the SA application process which also includes DODMERB physical and submission of all required documentation to the SA.

Unfortunately, it would be for the class of 2016. Tell your boyfriend to go to college for a year, work really hard and then apply again for the class of 2016! Good luck to him.

Thanks again.

I feel like a PITA asking these questions, but you all seem knowledgeable..

College for a year is a choice - his guidance counselor did mention something about some schools that have Navy ROTC. We're in NC - anyone have a recommendation for a good one? We're close to Durham.

UNC has a great program, and they seem to prefer instate students. Good luck with everything.

3 Schools with NROTC in NC. UNC-CH, NCSU,Duke.
