Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

This is just the type of speculating I like to do. Only problem is my DS has early release so he can go to the gym every day, and comes home to change before the mail gets here. The only thing I could do would be hide it overnight and think of something fun for the next day. My DH is TDY and coming home for a short visit this next weekend, so it would be so much fun for him to break the news to DS. On the other hand, Grandpa is very involved with DS and his quest to get to the Academy, and that could be a very touching moment. Here's hoping it happens, and I need to make sure my Flip camera is charged up to catch it all! :shake:

Decisions decisions... Who should break the news, where, when and how. I think we have enough to think about here to get us through the night.... Tailwind: Love the little brother idea - what a bonding moment!!! And Delaney, having the proud papa or grandpa deliver the goods would be priceless too. I must agree with you Tailwind that the DS/DD should have all honors delivering the message to the friends and family. As much as I will have to bite my lip and not say a word... Just loving the possibilities and the wishful thinking - it's keeping us sane!!!!

Good Morning (it's still morning in CA) fellow stalkers!
OK! Since we have nothing to do but wait.... (clean the house? Oh no!) Let's banter about the best way to tell our DS/DD the BFE news (assuming we find out first.) Anyone have any great ideas? Anyone want to share how they told their appointee the news? We can all dream about the moment."

As I've been stalking mostly from afar, I've thought about this very thing--quite a bit actually! My son has practice after school every day, so doesn't get home until 5ish. I get off work earlier (but after his school ends) and have thought about driving up to school with a huge boquet of blue and white balloons (AFA colors!) and tying them to his car door handle. Maybe put a message on them with a Sharpie marker. "Congrats to the newest AFA Appointee!" or something like that. That way he and his friends, who have been asking him about this constantly, would see it together as they leave practice. I've also pondered whether I could go home on my lunch hour, find the BFE in the mail, drive to the HS with a message to be delivered to my son's class (hopefully there wouldn't be a test that day!) and still get back to work without being late. I think that would be tight, but it sure would be fun for him to get the news among his classmates.

Hopefully I'll get the chance to put one of these scenarios into play!

USAF52 - Love the balloons!!! And having the BFE on the front seat of the car would be awesome too! Being with friends when he found out would be a great moment!

DS's status changed to Appointment Offered two days before the BFE arrived. So keep stalking the online app too! Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

Word of advice...

If you drop a hint, i.e., the balloons on the car, definitely leave the BFE on the seat. The day that DS got the AFA BFE, we were evasive about his inquiry on mailbox contents, he said he thought something was up and was tempted to light the afterburners to get home. You don't want them to break any land speed record coming home and possibly getting a ticket. Luckily, he already had the USNA BFE so he was not in total stalker mode, plus I sensed his suspicion and advised him I had seen HP on the way home. (maybe I did, maybe I didn't :wink:)Make sure and tell them every chance you get to drive carefully, it is part of the required bubble wrap treatment.

Did a driveby to grab mail from the mailbox today. DD reaches in. TWE with USAFA in return address slot. Hearts drop. Then I look closer. It's a solicitation for donations from the Falcon Fund!!:shake::shake::shake:

Spanky, I had considered leaving the BFE as part of my plan, but ruled against that since my son drives a Jeep--with a soft top, he doesn't lock the doors. Too many practical jokers in his HS who know about what should be coming in the mail and I don't want to risk one of them seeing it first and hiding it or worse!

:thumb:Congrats vamom on that win against Kansas!

Thanks! It was a great game (that's easy to say when your team wins!) And that cute little Shaka Smart....you know you're old when the coaches look like babies! :)

Oh, and about the game:
Here is how my son will know that got a BFE:
He will arrive from school, park his car, see something weird on the ground next to the mailbox. He will walk over to investigate and find his mother passed out on top of the daffodils clutching mail. Not very pretty, is it?

Spanky, your post brought tears and smiles to my eyes. I have to tell you, when I saw your post with your name (Spanky) it made me smile. "Spanky" is the call sign of a good friend from TPS who spends most of his time now living on the international space station. Good stock comes from the name. Congrats to your son and for an incredible future.

Ha! Note to self: Bring someone with me when stalking - thus saving the daffodils and my frazzled cranium from hitting the curb. Or! I could wrap myself in bubblewrap before venturing out to the mailbox. Need more bubblewrap.

I think a good idea might be to forge a fake TWE. Then when they open it its just says "Just kidding! The BFE's on the kitchen table"

This won't work - not enough bubble wrap in the world for this scenario...

Anyone else's DS or DD on spring break like my DS next Week? No chance of surprising him. And if the dreaded TWE arrives, he may not even let us know unless we ask, as I am sure he will have a hard time discussing it for a while......

I'm on spring break right now, and I'm 8 hours away from my home, so if anything does arrive I won't get to open it until next Sunday...

BFE day

OK stalkers! Heading to bed - Pacific time. So..... I'm anticipating waking up to the Appointment thread on fire!!!! Many of you will be up several hours before me so - Good Luck to All! Wishing you all BFE dreams and safe stalking tomorrow. (Put your bicycle helmet on)

stalking 201

I have a locking mailbox, and I keep the key on my keyring. So, I'm the one who checks the mail. Just something to think about if there's a next time.

It's been a nice stalk break today. Will resume usual activities in the morning.
