Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

I just called the admissions office. Qualified but no vacancy. ><

Hope it goes better for the rest of you guys.

Cripes, Cryo, I hate to hear that.......come check in on the "Received a TWE thread". Lot of parents/kids over there working on next steps. I know you feel awful and can't speak much (my heart squeezes when I hear the TWE news in this forum). But come back and heal one day at a time, stronger and stronger, until THE PATH BECOMES CLEAR. Know what I mean? Plus folks on many threads can use your advice and thoughts.

Last stalk to the mailbox DS#2 received TWE, so the mail has landed in AK. DS#2 won't be home till later this evening. Not planning to call him, I am not going to say anything unless he asks. I am not a good actress. Tried to call DH but he is at lunch/gym that is where I should be but decided to skip to stalk the mailbox. Tailwind's suggestion of comfort food sounds good but if you put grilled cheese and lemonade in front of me right now, I wouldn't be able to eat it. Well my lunch hour is over need to get back to work. Maybe pounding a few tennis balls tonight will help, playing mixed doubles. DS has a great other opportunity we knew this year would be very competitive, his other door has opened let's see where it takes him.

Congrats to all with BFE's, also others who have received the TWE as it has echoed so many times on this forum and I have known several who were not accepted the first application but second or third, you can make it happen :thumb:

YES! BFE arrived in the mailbox today...but, alas, it is from the University of San Diego. Better than a TWE from USD, I suppose.

Still no envelopes in the mailbox today here in Southern California! I am so tempted to call the ALO myself to inquire about the appointees in our area. This is really making me go insane... Did anyone hear from California today?

My prayers go out for all the candidates and their families. All of these DSs and DDs are blessed with so much intellectually, physically, and emotionally to even get to this point. BFEs or TWEs, they will all go on to great things!

PS.
Question: If a Candidate receives the dreaded TWE, does USAFA automatically consider him/her for the AFROTC or does one have to have applied for it before? How about the Prep School?

Hope Pima or Flieger93 can answer... Thanks!

CA District 41 reporting in (San Bernardino Co.) - nothing yet but, called the AF Counselor and got the word - "Qualified - No Vacancy"

Would love to know if there's ANYONE who received any glimmer of hope for getting in late. It just seems strange that they wouldn't have some sort of a wait list not knowing how many would accept the appointments.

Tailwind: You're an inspiration - thank you!
To all the BFE recipients: CONGRATS!
To all TWE recipients: Stay strong and focused on the goal - whatever it is.:thumb:

californiakid: Univ. of San Diego is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I actually really feel bad about him even getting the appointment when I see other people getting TWE's at the same time and just really hope he doesn't keep someone else from getting a slot permanently. We got an email from the West Point RC today (as MALO's) saying that they are NOT planning to fill slots that are declined, which is a shock. Wondering with the TWE's going out at the same time if that's the case here too.

This is just awful news. I called DD at school after appointment arrived. She was completely shocked--she had written AFA off because of what seemed to be a lack of interest on their part: thought it was over a long long time ago. DD has already committed to USMA and won't even consider taking a trip to CS to visit the academy. I, on the other hand, what her to at least visit before making such a huge life altering commitment--but, it's not my decision to make . The declination form will be in the mail tomorrow so hopefully someone will be able to use it.

Hello Club Members (don't forget to put this club on your resume and certainly don't forget to list it in your obituary!):

OK, nothing in the mail today. I returned home late in the afternoon and FYI....you may have a coupon in your mail for the new Spicy Chick-fil-A. I did!

So, I checked this thread and decided to call admissions and ---gulp---qualified but no space. I knew that was 99% going to be the case, but I liked the Stalker Club so much that I hung on! DS made the decision to apply at the very last minute...you have no idea what I mean when I say that! When he did not get the principal nom (those all went to current ROTC College Freshman) , we kind of knew it would be highly unlikely as he only applied to one MOB for a nom and did not even apply for the VP nom! How we made it THIS far is beyond me! :) His plan B is awesome....AFROTC and Corp of Cadets at VT/School of Engineering. And of course, today he says "Mom, I'm going to reapply and I'm going to it the right way and EARLY!". OK, says me....here I go again. AHHHH!!!!!

Should we start a help group for the "second times around" parents? I think it would have a following!

It really breaks my heart for all of you who have rec'd the TWE. Especially the kids on here who I can just FEEL their excitement/fear/optimism/angst. The fact is that everyone who made it this far would be an excellent candidate for the AFA. But as in life, there is usually a cut-off and sometimes you are over that line and sometimes under. I do know that many of the re-applicants are accepted so GO FOR IT if you still want this! DS and I groaned when we realized that the application for reapplicants begins on July 1st. Are you kidding me? 3 months and here we go again! LOL

For those of you who rec'd the BFE, BFC! (Big Fat Congrats!). I am geninuely sooo happy for all of you. Please remember how nice we all were on this thread for those of you who will be a year ahead of of our DS/DD the following year! Be careful this summer and don't do anything that DoDMERB wouldn't like! :)

I will stay on this thread and keep creeping and stalking and lurking. I don't want to get rusty on my new-found skills since I will using them again soon! Meanwhile, I need to get used to saying that I am a HOKIE! Orange and purple are not my "colors", but I can't wait for some Hokie football. There's a silver lining in every cloud and I hope all of the TWE recipients out there find theirs. XXXOOOs

Vamom!

p.s. DS in his room strumming guitar and very quiet otherwise. :(

OH, and I do have some unfortunate news....I was just going back through the posts and I think I can answer a question: today when I spoke w/ AFA, it was stated to me that there was a probability that declines would not be filled. :( Again, I've seen more than a few "official quotes" on this forum turn out to be incorrect, but this one, I feel, is correct. He sounded pretty confident. As PIMA says, timing is everything and our kids, the High School Class of 2015, had bad timing for DOD budget cuts, number of cadets at the academy etc. And our MOC was only a "one spot year" this year!

VAMOM, good for your DS. VT is gaining a great future officer, at least until he reapplies. You have been such an important part of this thread and I wish you and your son the very best.

Farewell 2015

DS called and he too heard "Qualified but no appointment." What a rough day! Best wishes to all who are still in the hunt. These kids have accomplished so much! God Bless You All!

Ok, I have to admit, I'm confused...my counselor didn't tell me anything about whether I had an appointment or not, didn't say qualified, but no vacancy...nothing...she told me that the DQ'ed letter didn't apply to me, but didn't say anything else...yet I'm hearing all of these other people saying that their counselor told them they were qualified with no vacancy...any idea as to what this means?

Hey Vamom, I just wanted to let you know that you should advise your DS to apply for a VP nom next time. Simply applying for the VP nom adds points DIRECTLY to your WCS. You don't get any easier WCS points than that.

Seriously? Is there a solid reason for this? Are there any other ways to add "easy" WCS points?

A friend of mine the next town over (same district in CT) got his TWE today but I haven't gotten any update...
Seems strange because we're pretty much both in the same boat and obviously in the same area.

Thank you and yes, I think we are MUCH more familiar with the process now so this time around he will do things a bit differently.....if he does not end up drinking the Virginia Tech kookaid! I hear that that is an epidemic of sorts over there!:thumb:

Airpower2013, I understand. I was ill before getting any news, then so depressed after getting DS's news, I felt ill talking to him, and he actually started cough/gagging. But, I promise you, he woke up MUCH MUCH better today, even got a text "I love you mom for overnighting the Plan D college a last minute transcript today!"

VAMom - looks like you and me are in the same boat. My son is reapplying in July as well. You are so sweet to so many people. We'll be posting a lot to encourage and inform as best we can.

T6DudeDad - I am with you in spirit. I know you are sad. Give yourself a day to grieve and feel sad, and then..........my friend.............get up and help your kid by example and show them how to KICK SOME BU-T meaning shake the dust off, get up, think it out, be good to yourself, have a steak and baked potato, and come up with the new gameplan together. Lots of hugs to the kid and let them rest mentally on this a little while and then (did I mention) KICK SOME BU-T when the going gets down.

Called my Admissions Counselor today. Was expecting to hear that it was the end of the road for me due to lack of vacancies and no nomination, but was told that I'm still in it. Apparently they are hunting for a nom for me. He told me to stay strong and keep on waiting, and that I should hear something by the end of April. So, it looks like I'll be stalking for at least another month. My heart aches for everyone who got a TWE today. Congrats to all the BFEs. Good luck at the mailbozes tomorrow folks!

NKPeterman, that is awesome! You must have something very special in your resume that is the perfect 'recipe'. Kryptonite! Hang in there-we want some good news on this forum.

VAMOM, I can see it now. For the 2nd time applicants, we can be like Dear Abby and Ann Landers. or Lucy and Ethel. or Frick and Frack. or the Real Housewives of Mailbox Stalking Junction, USA.
