Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

Your welcome Vamom. I would say the same for myself as well. I anticipate finishing my new application before summer is over. Hopefully your DS and I will be attending USAFA as a part of the class of 2016 :)
Seriously? Is there a solid reason for this? Are there any other ways to add "easy" WCS points?
I can't say anything for sure, but I would suspect it shows your dedication to searching out every possible way to obtain a nomination. These are by far the easiest WCS points you will get. I don't know of any other "easy" ways to raise your WCS apart from raising SAT/ACT scores. Really, really try to get those scores up. You could be looking at a principal nomination or an LOA with extremely high SAT scores. Thats just the way it appears to me at least... MOC love those scores. It really depends on the MOC though. One senator in my state didn't even give me an interview because I had 640m/610v. The other senator looked past those scores, gave me an interview, and later gave me a nomination.

Good night folks, signing off. Wishing everyone a good day for tomorrow. Kids, don't be sad and defeated. I promise, each kid who got the TWE feels exactly the same, from CA to Maine, shore to shore. You were exceptional to begin with and are a rare breed. Your futures are incredibly bright and shiny.

All I can say for us is that God closes doors and opens doors. When my DS received his TWE last year, it was hard, but we trusted God that our son was in his hands. We were set for him to go to a very good university on a AFROTC scholarship. We didn't even know about this website at the time. Then some weeks after the rejection letter, a letter came from the AFA offering him a Falcon Scholarship. I have to say that the prep school program was a Godsend in that it prepared him (as best as anything could) for the rigors of the AFA and us for his absence. In hindsight, I am grateful that he received his TWE last year because the semester at NW Prep and the other semester at a junior college has prepared him well. He received his appointment to AFA on March 2nd this year. As disappointed as I know some of you are and I know because we experienced it, the TWE is not the end. This is where perseverance begins.

Well stated, Tailwind Angel ....you really ARE an angel!
See you on the TWE thread.......

Is there anyone who received their BFE whose online status did NOT change?

Yes, MOC call last Monday, BFE arrived today and online status still reads candidate/qualified. Seems like the Academy has the timing worked out well - so as not to change the online status before the candidate receives official word on the offer of appointment. Good luck to all!

Personally, I think they're just trying to confuse us...:shake:

Does your online status say "candidate qualified" or "candidate complete"?

Also, I want to caution those who are applying / reapplying: We just found out today that DS's Eagle Rank was not awarded ANY points b/c he used the date of his Eagle Ceremony (next month) instead of when he completed his rank. :( And a few other "learnings" like not applying for the VP nom etc. So make sure to stay in touch with your counselor and keep up on what you need to add. DS did not realize that he could add awards/officerships etc. after the original form was completed so the first time he spoke with his counselor was AFTER March 10th! Just a heads up to anyone reading this who plans to apply for the first time..... If we had found this forum before the application DEADLINE boy would we have been so much more educated. But that said, we know NOW and that's what counts. :thumb: And YAY for the forum and hats off to the MBSC and our "expert witnesses" Fleiger, Christorp and of course, PIMA!

Almost time to hit the hot tub with DS - He's done two P90X workouts today (since we had a meet and greet with Plan B Dean yesterday) and seems in fine fettle. No BFE, no TWE, no status change. I talked to DH who is out of town, and said I was sort of expecting the QNV letter... but he said it's not over until it's over. And I gave my DS the admissions # in case he wanted to call and find out, and he said "I think I'll just wait until I get my letter". So if he can, I certainly can. I'll hang out another week or so!!

Congrats to all who received an appointment and best wishes to those who didn't. I can't believe the stats of some of those who didn't get an appointment..... so everyone at the Academy this year should be stellar!!

Good night from Texas.

Still waiting

DS hasnt recieved anything in the mail yet, Im TDY so texting him throughout the day.

He called admissions and they said his record is currently under review. He didn't follow up with " am I being looked at for Falcon prep?"

So now we sit and wait. Anyone have any idea what step of the process is going on currently?

Bugsy I had the same conversation with my DS today. I feel confident still. Good Luck!

Amen!

I know what you mean about finding this forum a little too late! First, when DS had his "interview" with the ALO, we did not even realize it was an evaluation. I thought the ALO just dropped by to answer our questions!! DS was not prepared and did not highlight his activities like he should have. Also, we heard that you can't "fail" the CFA, you just have to do it. WRONG! If you can't do a pull up (male), you fail! I kick myself now for not following through on the YMCA membership after class-size reduction laws kicked DS out of weightlifting class. I don't know if he will apply next year or not - still nursing his wounds, but we will definitely be better informed this time around

Incidentally, we are in South Florida (75 mi from Cuba) and no official word has reached us yet.

Denversmom, I'm headed to Key West tomorrow for a "gals getaway" that could NOT have been timed more perfectly. I will be ablet to swim to Cuba but will not attempt due to plans to spend much time in Margaritaville.

I know how you feel...hopefully your DS will reapply if AFA is his passion...just think of all that we learned during this process. My best to you and yours. I'll wave as I fly over!

I had a track meet that lasted until about 9:00 p.m. today, so I was unable to stalk the mail. However, I told my sister at home to send me a picture message if anything came for me. I checked my phone after school and saw I received a picture message from her. That file seemed to take forever to download. But there it was, a picture of a BFE. I would have liked to check the mailbox myself, but I can't complain.

Congratulations to all those who have received appointments. And to every candidate, congratulations on making it this far. You should truly be proud.

Well, today ended on a positive note....DS's volleyball team won their big conference game despite having a difficult time in getting their serves in (that is one of the most maddening things to watch....) Despite this, they still won and are now first in the conference. Now they need to take care of another conference rival on Thursday.... Off to catch some shuteye....

Excellent way to end the day!

Liberator: Isn't technology wonderful!?

TWE

Well, it was a TWE for my DS. Science-reasoning scores not competitive enough. So, our sincere congrats to everyone. May God bless your path and strengthen your heart to Him. We will be going for it again!

It is interesting: I just went back and looked at our MOC's press releases on who received nominations this year and last year. Not one person from last year reapplied this year (or at least did not get a nomination). Once again, it is reason to for DS to reapply should he get a TWE. He is now in AP chemistry, physics, and calculus (BC) and takes the AP test in May. Assuming he scores high enough, he will plan on taking the next level of engineering curriculum classes (he already has credit for drafting and CAD classes) and is planning on joining AFROTC and taking the classes for it as well. I think this is a good plan moving forward....any other insights that he may want to consider? He has been working on his core strength and his pullups (he wants to be able to max out). As far as ECs, he will continue as a Venturing Crew member and officer, he will transition into an Assistant Scoutmaster role in Boy Scouts, and whatever additional college activities he wants to try. Any additional suggestions are welcome!

Your son sounds like a great candidate. My son reapplied this year while attending Greystone Prepatory School/ Schreiner University, and the information I received from them was that in reapplying at the college level, GRADES are the most important section of your application. Also, the academies don't even look at the college applicants until January. You also still want to max your CFA scores, retake SAT's and ACT's and participate in Community Service.

My understanding from the USAFA counselor is YES, it is looked on very favorably if you reapply the 2nd time. It shows determination, perserverance (sp?) and a true desire to attend the academy. My son is definitely reapplying after his recent TWE (qualified but no more slots).

I have a question.............the college is thinking of attending as Plan B has ROTC. He is going to have a heavy engineering class load. Is ROTC a major factor in looking at the candidate, or are the grades more important? Advice?
