Class of 2015 Preparation Advice

Is passing the APFT at WP the same as 'regular' Army standards or no?
Are the maximums the same?

At WP passing is above a 70% on the Army grade scale. Maxes are the same, but it is possible to supermax events with higher scores. You can only supermax events, however, if you max all 3 events.

What happens if you 'supermax?' It just benefits your physical aspect of your whole grade/class rank, correct?
What happens if you fail?

If you supermax you receive an A+ for the APFT, will probably gain some recognition, and there is also a reward where you get your car earlier than your peers (after Christmas Leave as oppose to after Spring Leave during your Cow Year). Not sure which/how many you have to supermax for the latter reward though.

For girls this seems to be a good workout plan : do 20-30 push ups then move to about 70-80 sit ups. Repeat this process about five times daily. It seems to work well for me considering on the CFA I won the award for top girls score during sls session two. However, I am struggling with the running times. I would like to super max the apft. Any runners have any advice?

Well, what do you need help with? Is it the distance.. speed.. breathing?

I suggest you incorporate intervals into your routine. Uphill is possible.

treadmills can help with intervals, but don't rely on them too much.
run 4 miles at one time twice a week slow to medium pace, three miles one day at a medium pace, and two miles fast with intervals the other days. that way you get distance and speed. also sit ups help with endurance. Squats help build speed and explosiveness.
Also, don't neglet the rucksack. I'd advise getting a rather cheap one off eBay or something and rucking 2-4 miles with 20-30 lbs once or twice a week, doing more as you get closer to R Day. Make sure you're following proper rucking technique with good boots, tho. I'm sure there's a website that spells it out, but if you need help, PM me.

This is a common misconception I have seen from candidates. I heavily suggest NOT rucking as a workout as all that will do is injure your knees. If you get in shape in the traditional ways rucking will not be an issue. All you need to do in preparation for that is break your boots in.

Regarding boots: I understand the importance of wearing in a GOOD pair of boots but which pair/kind is most recommended? Thank you condor 17 for the running advice it seems to be a good plan

I dropped almost 2 minutes on my run time during beast. I attribute this to merciless hill running.

Your boot letter (still to come) will provide you guidance on which boots you may buy to wear for Beast.
