Class of 2017 Profile

I was still hoping someone might have an idea about the impact JROTC might have on acceptance or how many accepted from the Class Profile were involved in JROTC?.

Looking at the Profile it highlights things such as...

Boys/Girls State
Student Government
Newspaper Editor
Yearbook Editor
Debate
Drama
Scouting
Varsity Athletics
Combat Veteran
International Cadet

I am really surprised that WP would report 104 Drama participants in their Class Profile and not mention or report on JROTC. The beauty of JROTC is a student can immerse themselves in it as much or as little as they desire. They can just go to class and week the uniform once a week or they can do Rocket Club, Drill Team, Color Guard, Academic Bowl Team, Raiders, attend JROTC summer leadership programs, be appointed to CORPS staff, etc...

I am obviously biased because DS has participated in AFJROTC. It has helped shape his devotion to service and interest in attending a SA.

Again, does anyone know or have a guess as to why JROTC would not be part of the Class Profile?

for AFJROTC, it must be an honor unit for your DS to get JROTC/ROTC nomination for West Point

for West Point, the Whole Candidate Score is 60% academic, 30% leadership, and 10% physical. 30% leadership is further broken down into 1/3 SOE, 1/3 activities, and 1/3 Sports. So JROTC participation helps, but it's not a game changer.

My guesses on why JROTC is not a part of the class profile either they ran out of space or they wanted to emphasis other areas to make sure kids that don't participate in JROTC don't think they are excluded.

What is "SOE"?

SOE = Statement of Evaluation: These are the teacher evaluation of the candidate and include 3 teachers: Physics/Chemistry, English and Math. The candidate submits the name and email address for the teacher. The teacher will click on the link in the email message and complete a questionnaire about the candidate.

USCGA 2018,

Some of the SAs do report the JROTC numbers as part of their class profile. For example at Air Force it typically runs at about 10% of the incoming class.

For what it's worth... My DS (class of 2017 C4C) and DD (class of 2018 hopeful) were both in AFJROTC. I can tell you that you are exactly correct that you can participate at all sorts of levels. In their cases, by their last year one was Unit Commander and the other Vice Commander. Thier experiences in JROTC certainly seemed to have a positive impact the MOC nomination process for the SAs at least (as DD was told as much).

Hope this helps and good luck!

Can't say why it isn't reported. Anyone who would speculate is just guessing.

JROTC/CAP contribute to WCS and they definitely add points - especially if you are in a leadership role. USMA doesn't to include stats on JROTC participants in recent history. As others have said, other service academies do report these in their profiles. The C/O 2017 profile contains similar breakdowns as recent years:

JROTC in and of itself doesn't rank any higher than other EC's, or it didn't seem to in our experience. To GoBlue's point, the emphasis should be on demonstrating leadership in whatever activities you engage. It's not a trump card, but rather a conduit of leadership skills that still relies on your participation and commitment.

What do you mean there is no trump card?

There is something if I do it, that I don't need good SAT/ACT, EC's, sports, and high CFA scores. SAF Mafia is hiding it from me.
