I have heard that the Navy is switching from the NWU type one to the NWU type three. I have also heard that this will take place later this year (October or something.) So since the class of 2021 is joining the Navy in the year of the change, will we be issued type ones and later switch to the type three? Or will we be issued the type threes on I-day? I was just curious.

I heard it wasn't becoming standard issue until October 2017 for enlisted sailors in boot camp but I'm not sure about USNA since we start in June.

I'm pretty sure you'll get the blueberries. Keep them. They'll be a collectible. ;)

I highly doubt that. Navy uniform shops everywhere are full of Type I because no one is buying them. Maybe they will be donated to sea cadets when Type III arrives.

Alas, you're probably right. My son loves his Type I's but finds irony in the notion of blue camo at sea. He swears he's saving his even after they're retired because he claims they're supremely comfortable. I think he just likes the way they look and the fact they are so uniquely "Navy."

They are comfortable compared to other uniforms and he doesn't need to iron them. Tell him just wait till he gets his Type III because they are even better. The biggest reasons not to like them are man overboard and when he is trying to hide from the Chief on the composite deck.
